We’re hiring an Interpretive Training Specialist to Live. Work. Explore. at the south rim of the Grand Canyon! Job Summary: Work with all departments on property to ensure employees are conveying accurate, appropriate and consistent interpretive themes to guests. Develop new, park approved, interpretive programs and messages to enhance the guests’ knowledge of the park and provide requested support to departments that provide direct interpretive tours to guests. The Details: Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Pay: $18.70 per hour Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays). Responsibilities Research, design, and facilitate training activities relative to the historical significance of our company (Xanterra/Fred Harvey), and provide park resource C informational training related to the geology, flora, fauna, and history of Grand Canyon National Park. Facilitate guest service, interpretive skills, and park resource C informational training courses using a variety of engaging teaching techniques and Adult Learning Principles. Achieve and maintain professional status as Certified Interpretive Trainer [CIT] through the National Association of Interpretation. Facilitate interpretive skills training courses, specifically Certified Interpretive Guide training, for Interpretive Tour Bus Drivers and Livery Staff of the Transportation Department. Partner with NPS to learn and improve interpretive training programs and coordinate participation of relevant Xanterra employees in NPS and Grand Canyon Association sponsored interpretive training events (e.g. Annual Spring Training, Annual Backcountry Guides Training, Resource Updates, etc.). Work with the LCD Manager and other vested parties within Xanterra to develop an interpretive training plan and strategy that meets requirements of the concession contract. Maintain the updating of resources and materials related to park resource and informational training classes to ensure accuracy and consistency in messaging. Utilize feedback provided by class participants in course evaluations and coaching from the Learning C Development Manager to continuously improve personal facilitation skills and teaching techniques. Establish and maintain a positive working rapport with supervisors, managers, and directors while communicating training information, requirements, and course completions. Share responsibility in the facilitation of all aspects of New Employee Orientation and Cash Handling Training. Assist the LCD Manager in supporting and implementing all corporate training initiatives. Assist the LCD Manager in the scheduling of classes on the monthly training calendar, and in the advertising of training classes through the company newsletter and intranet. Assist the Learning C Development Manager in tracking training completions and the generating of training reports through the Learning Management System. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications NAI Certification as an Interpretive Guide (CIG), and/or Interpretive Trainer (CIT), along with one or more years’ experience working in the field of interpretation desired. Passion and demonstrated knowledge in the park resource and interpretive themes, including topics such as the park’s history, geology, flora and fauna. Willingness and ability to research park resources and interpret information and compile it into a comprehensive and cohesive training program using basic instructional design principles. Strong and effective communication skills. Ability to maintain professional relationships while building a positive working rapport with department trainers, managers, and supervisors. Experience in creating training calendars, visual aids, teaching aids and class outlines, utilizing print, audio visual media, and electronic/virtual learning methods. Ability to be flexible across training mediums (in-person, blended, remote), able to tailor to your audience and consider factors such as culture, technology, and learning styles. Project a positive and welcoming presentation for staff, representing the training materials and company in the most encouraging manner. Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint software Learning Management System experience, a plus. Ability to work independently in an organized and productive manner to complete projects. Ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license and comply with the company Xanterra South Rim Company Vehicle Policy. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
