Major Responsibilities:
Determination of appropriate supplies and equipment set up, necessary to perform special procedures exams. The special procedures technologist II is able to give clear direction to technologists and students. The technologist is to actively promote a positive and professional team effort to increase customer satisfaction. 1) Prepares and aids in the administration of contrast media in accordance with product specifications 2) Gathers all necessary supplies as required by departmental protocols in order to perform the procedures as requested 3) Maintains sterile technique while preparing both the patient and the room for the exam being performed 4) Ensuring at all times that proper radiation protection standards are being met 5) Interviews the patients to retrieve and record accurate information as requested on all documentation to include but not limited to pregnancy forms, supply charges and patient vital statistics 6) Participates in a team effort to reduce wait times by controlling the flow of patients in and out of the department 7) Provide education and support to patients and families of patients in partnership with the nurse to answer questions and concerns regarding care and treatment 8) Exhibits excellent time management skills with the ability to assess and prioritize cases 9) Maintains a professional appearance and professional conduct, including confidentiality of informationOperation of more advanced and sophisticated radiographic equipment. 3) Assists Radiologist with Ultrasound and CT guided biopsies 4) Sets up injectors and administers contrast. 1) Operates Interventional Radiographic equipment with expertise. 2) Operates and maintains daily QC of ancillary equipment such as ACT hemachron testingAdherence to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality patient care and train staff in proper safety measures. 1)Safely operates all equipment used during invasive and non-invasive procedures to include but not limited to film changers, c-arm, fluoroscopy equipment, digital imaging, pressure injectors, patient monitors and general diagnostic equipment 2)Communicates recommendations to management for improvement of the interventional radiography environment, organization of operations; and contribute as appropriate, to the benefit of the department and organization 3) Is able to act appropriately in emergency situations related to fire safety, cardiac arrest or respiratory failure, equipment status and use, hazardous materials handling and storage, security, infection control, and the mass casualty plan 4) Acts with consideration of the special needs and behaviors of the specific age groups in the performance of the assigned duties 5) Keeps all medications and contrast secured and keeps daily temperature log of warmers and refrigeratorsKeeps the department equipped, monitors vendors for possible savings, monitors & performs necessary QC, and good basic interpersonal skills 1) Orders and stock supplies in the special procedures area ensuring that appropriate amount of supplies are on hand while verifying all expiration dates 2) Identifies CQI indicators to monitor efficiency of operation 3) Performs daily QC of ACT testing 4) Works with vendors to maintain quality of supplies and equipment 5) Actively participates in generating patient charges, reducing supply charges, capturing revenue, and working on projects to improve the overall finance of the IR department 6) Maintains appropriate par levels and monitors department expenses 7) Rotates through areas of DI on as-needed basis.Provide instruction and orientation to patients and other staff. 1) Train, assign, and monitor technologist and student performance through observation, QC data collection, and competencies 2) Provides regular in-services to ensure technical skill levels that meet the Radiologist(s) expectations 3) Provides education to patients, new hires, and students regarding sterile processes, procedural information and post procedural instructions 4) Implements and orients staff and students to new protocols, supplies and equipment.Make appropriate independent decisions when Lead Technologist and Manager are not available 1) Address and handle customer complaints as they occur and document response or resolution 2) Coordinate staffing with other technologists and the Lead Technologist to ensure 24/7 technical coverage for Interventional Radiography 3) Provide a sterile surgical environment for patient care by supervising and partaking in the cleaning of the suite, organization of stock, and notification of appropriate parties for the removal of needles, red cans, and waste.
