Intraoperative Monitoring Tech- Neurology, PRN
Major Responsibilities: Direct Patient Care - Intraoperative Monitoring     1)Provides direct patient care as needed; performs all Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring procedures in the operating room to assist in assessing the functional integrity of peripheral and/or central nervous system during vascular, orthopedic, and neurosurgical operative procedures. Procedures records include, but are not limited to electroencephalograms evoked potential, electrocorticography and topgraphic brain mapping.     2)Furnishes the surgeon with a description of the waveforms being recorded, advises surgeons and anesthesiologists of changes in the waveform data.     3)Provides technical interpretation and documentation for each procedure performed and maintains the necessary records under minimal supervision.     4)Demonstrates the use appropriate psychosocial interventions based on age and cognitive status.     5)Provides personalized service in every situation     6)Maintains CPR certification Other IOM Procedure Activities     1)Designs and assists in program development, evaluation of practice guidelines, and quality standards in collaboration with the Director and Medical Director.     2)Seeks new opportunities, program projects and partnerships to increase client base and develop new sources of revenue for the Intraoperative Monitoring Program. Training/Cross-training activities     1)Assists in the development and implementation of inservice education for departmental staff and makes recommendations for continuing education programs.     2)Participates in the development of staff trainees by providing one to one teaching supervision, on the job demonstrations and prepares and gives lectures.     3)Participates in the development of technical staff by providing cross- training inservices and on-the- job training demonstrations.     4)Provides education to patients and families through direct and/or indirect contact. Education provided is appropriate for age and developmental status of the patient/family. Departmental Quality Activities     1)Participates in the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, outcomes measures, credentialing and research protocols.     2)Ensures technical expertise and excellence by discussing with Manager and Medical Director any need for appropriate changes regarding procedures.     3)Assists in the development, implementation and data gathering for CQI monitors.     4)Works with other associates to improve departmental processes.     5)Actively participates as a team member in CQI and various other departmental teams, at times take on the role of the leader of the team. Technical Resource Activities     1)Maintains contact and serves as a technical resource person for clinicians and other personnel in regard to electroneurophysiologic procedures performed in the department.     2)Assesses and recommends use of new supplies     3)Adheres to departmental, hospital and organizational policies and procedures. Assists Manager in the evaluation and writing of departmental procedures.     4)Performance of special projects as assigned in an effective and efficient manner. Communication Skills     1)Provides assessment of skill and knowledge level technical staff cross- training, assists Manager in determination of ability to perform IOM procedures.     2)Supports teamwork and assists in teambuilding interventions, maintains good working relationships with OR staff, surgeons, anesthesiologists, etc.     3)Assists in the writing of program proposals, evaluation of new test procedures and equipment     4)Demonstrates a tolerance for new ideas, suspending initial judgments upon the introduction of new ideas from other team members.     5)Actively participates in co-worker feedback program. Gives and accepts constructive feedback.     6)Builds relationships with customers by listening and responding to their needs and expectations. Seeks feedback to determine customer’s needs.     7)Owns and resolves every customer problems or issues to the best of ability, referring unresolved issues to the proper source. Performance of Other END Procedures     1)Performs all electroencephalographic and evoked potential procedures including ICU Monitoring, and/or Polysomnographic/MSLT procedures.     2)Provides technical interpretations of all electroneurodiagnostic or polysomnographic and specialized procedures under minimal supervision.     3)Provides complete documentation for each procedure and maintains necessary records. Reports behavioral observations. Reviews patient’s existing records to aid in the assessment of the recording procedure. Scheduling     1)Assists with the IOM procedure scheduling process (department, physician office and OR) for baseline and coordination of equipment, supplies for each IOM procedure.

Education/Experience Required:Bachelor's degree or equivalent (ABRET Registration) a plus A minimum of one year experience in IOM procedures and A minimum of three years experience in routine END procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Multi-skilled, able to perform diagnostic testing procedures including but not limited to EEG & EP routine and advanced procedures. Well developed computer skills related to performance of procedures. Provides technical interpretation and clinical correlation of the procedure results. Behavioral observations convey advanced clinical knowledge Effective communication with good interpersonal skills. Functions as a team member. Good skills in CQI process and implementation IOM Certification CPR Certified

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions: Requires teamwork Work may be performed in all units of hospital, OR and ER May be exposed to life threatening diseases Work with all age groups and types of disabilities Requires flexible schedule and at times long work hours including 24 hour On-Call rotation Training and assisting in Electroneurophysiologic and Intraoperative neurophysiologic procedures Capable of dealing with hazardous materials If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
