Inventory Controller

The Peterborough peaking facilities, located in Peterborough, UK, comprise two key power installations. The first facility features a simple cycle peaking 2-unit combustion turbine GE Frame 9E, while the second comprises a reciprocating peaking facility equipped with 5 Wärtsilä 34SG units.

In addition to the Peterborough Peaking facilities, the Whitetower Asset Portfolio is also comprised of six other strategically located facilities, primarily focused on simple cycle natural gas-fired technology. These include Derby (58 MW), Heartlands (100 MW), Viking (50 MW), Thornhill (40 MW), Exeter (50 MW), and Croydon (50 MW). Together, these assets contribute to a robust energy supply, leveraging advanced technologies to deliver reliable and sustainable power across the region.

Opportunity Summary

The Inventory Controller plays a crucial role in managing and optimising all inventories at Peterborough, ensuring precise stock control, seamless logistics, and full compliance with company policies. This dynamic position involves analysing stock trends, maximising working capital, and supporting financial audits, while working closely with the O&M team to maintain uninterrupted operations. With responsibilities spanning procurement, supplier engagement, quality assurance, and forklift operations, the role may also require occasional travel to support other Whitetower facilities. It’s an excellent opportunity for a detail-driven professional to safeguard critical assets and drive operational excellence.

Key Health and Safety Duties and Responsibilities

Manage and control all inventories at Peterborough, ensuring stock levels, component locations, and transactions are accurately recorded in the CMMS. Monitor, trend, and analyse stock movements to optimise inventory management. Order stock items in accordance with company policies and operational requirements. Analyse and manage working capital, including tracking stock asset depreciation and optimising inventory value. Support the finance department with inventory-related audits, reconciliations, and compliance tasks. Collaborate regularly with the O&M team to ensure the efficient provision and management of stock items and capital spares, maintaining service continuity. Conduct quality assurance activities, including factory witness testing of components to verify compliance with specifications. Handle the collection, sorting, and distribution of post to relevant departments. Operate forklift trucks safely, ensuring compliance with standards, and obtain and maintain appropriate certification. Travel as needed to support inventory and logistics activities at other Whitetower assets on an ad hoc basis. Visit vendor premises domestically and internationally as needed for inspections, procurement, and supplier engagement. Ensure all duties are carried out in strict compliance with plant policies, procedures, safety regulations, and housekeeping standards. Safeguard the Owner’s investment in machinery, equipment, and facilities through diligent care, expertise, and proactive maintenance.

Working Relationships

The Inventory Controller will report to the Fleet Engineer and will be expected to have a high level of self-management to achieve desired objectives. This position will have regular interaction with the Financial Manager and O&M Team.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing on feet for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, routinely lifting up to 15 kg, and when necessary, use a respirator.

Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, gloves, and high voltage protective equipment etc.). Working with hazardous materials may be required.

Fitness For Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Work Schedule

The position is primarily an office hours role, which may at times require extended working hours, as well as some weekend and bank holiday work, depending on schedules, workload, and plant conditions. 'On-call' status will periodically be required. Additionally, the position may require occasional travel to other fleet locations for ad hoc support.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from £ 30,573.33 to £ 41,363.92.

Technical Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience

Industrial experience in physical inventory management and financial accounting within a maintenance or operational environment. Experience with procurement, vendor management, and contract negotiations to ensure cost-effective and reliable supply chains. Knowledge of inventory control, stock optimisation, and supply chain logistics, including best practices for minimising waste and maximising efficiency. Proven ability to coordinate and manage third-party service providers and contracts while ensuring compliance with company policies. Strong understanding of health and safety compliance, regulations, and industry standards related to inventory management. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills to maintain accurate records, collaborate with O&M and finance teams, and ensure efficient inventory operations. Proficiency in Computerised Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) for tracking and managing inventory. Competence in Microsoft Office and related digital tools for reporting, data analysis, and inventory tracking. Familiarity with MS Project or similar planning software to support scheduling and resource planning (preferred). Must possess a valid and unrestricted driving licence, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
