Responsibilities The major duties of the Inventory Program Data Scientist position include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides leadership, guidance, and standards for Inventory Program Data Management. Primary advisor for Application, Software, and Systems Development. Provide technical support, advice, and collaboration with Inventory and Monitoring Networks and the Data Science Team. Provide coordination and guidance for the development and management of natural resource inventory data sets and data systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/30/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. You must meet the following Basic Requirements in order to be eligible for this position: General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series 0401: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must meet the following Basic Requirements in order to be eligible for this position: Ecology Series, 0408: Degree: biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience at this level must include all of the following: Experience in the preparation, cleaning, and summarization of scientific data for use in analysis and reporting, including experience creating SQL queries. Experience in evaluating and reporting the status and trends of scientific data. Experience developing technical requirements to guide creation of data collection, quality management, data processing, or automated reporting applications/tools. Experience using and improving enterprise level applications for management and dissemination of scientific information products.. You must include hours per week worked. Physical Demands: The work is often sedentary; fieldwork may occasionally require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over uneven terrain. Working Conditions: A majority of the work is performed in an office setting with adequate light, heat, and ventilation. Occasional field visits may create exposure to a variety of physical settings and all types of weather. Field work may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rocky terrain, and deserts. Flying in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters is possible. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
