Investment Banking Associate, Corporate Finance, Financial Institutions Group

Citizens is seeking an experienced Investment Banking Associate to join our Financial Institutions Group (FIG) to support the team’s senior professionals in industry-focused client advisory as well as originating and executing capital markets and M&A transactions. This position is preferably based in Charlotte, NC, but can be based in Atlanta, GA, or New York, New York. 

The Associate’s responsibilities will include client development support, formulation of pitches encompassing strategic and capital markets advice, and involvement in execution of transactions from origination through closing.  The candidate should have the ability to work on multiple projects and transactions concurrently and will work directly with senior professionals in Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, M&A, Sponsor Coverage and Corporate Banking supporting acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, dividend recapitalizations, restructurings, refinancing, and equity raises. 

The Associate will also be responsible for supervising and developing analyst level bankers.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to join a rapidly growing investment banking platform with market leading positions in middle market corporate and sponsor backed transactions complemented by strong public equity research (including in the FIG space).. Through this experience the Associate will gain insight into the issues and considerations for management teams and shareholders at growing middle market companies, and exposure to strategic, financial, and capital decision making.

Primary responsibilities include

Working with senior bankers within the Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets and M&A product groups, Sponsor Coverage and Corporate Banking relationship teams to develop new business ideas, pitch strategies or transaction financing scenarios to help corporate clients and financial sponsors achieve their financial and strategic objectivesPerforming extensive financial statement modeling for a variety of transaction scenariosConducting comprehensive company and industry researchAnalyzing financial model output and client information to prioritize data and present conclusions for discussion purposesCoordinating with senior bankers to provide indicative transaction structure and pricing guidance based on financial model and comparable transaction analysisPreparing pitch materials for client meetingsManage transaction screening and credit / underwriting approval processes and all required documentation, analysis, and meetingsPlaying a key leadership role throughout the transaction execution processParticipating in accounting, business, and legal due diligenceWorking with legal counsel and clients / financial sponsors to draft and negotiate legal documentationPreparing detailed transaction marketing materials including confidential information memoranda, ratings agency presentations, and lender / roadshow management presentations

Qualifications

3+ years of direct experience in M&A, Corporate Finance, Leveraged Finance or Capital Markets. Proven experience in FIG, particularly in Wealth Management or Insurance companies is strongly preferred. Skills with the ability to express ideas in a persuasive, organized, and articulate mannerAbility to function as part of a flat organization, manage several projects at once and work effectively as an individual and as part of multiple teamsAbility to follow-up independently and consistently and play the critical role as the project manager on most assignmentsDemonstrated aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis with a solid understanding of financial statements, financial modeling and company or industry analysisSelf-starting team player who can think strategically and excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, challenging work environmentHigh degree of maturity and integrity with a positive and hardworking attitudeExcellent attention to detailAbility to immediately contribute to the group based on experience and help transfer best practices and knowledgeFull command of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and WordExperience with related financial services software including S&P CapitalIQ, S&P Leveraged Commentary, Advantage Data, Bloomberg, Thomson One, Thomson Loan Pricing Connector, FactSet, etc.

Education, Certifications and/or Other Professional Credentials 

Undergraduate degree with a strong academic record from a leading university.MBA a strong plus, but not required given level of experienceAttendance in a formal investment or corporate banking training program preferred, but not requiredFINRA Series 79 (or 7) and Series 63 and /or willingness to obtain licenses within required timeframe.

Pay Transparency 

The salary range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000 per year, plus an opportunity to earn an annual discretionary bonus. Actual pay is based on various factors including but not limited to the work location, and relevant skills and experience.  ​
