Investment Director
Overview

The Investment Director is responsible for sourcing, diligencing, and executing investments from end-to-end, regularly bringing deal opportunities to the Investment Committee. In this role, the Investment Director will be a senior member of the investment team and represent the firm publicly through events and thought leadership. In addition to deal-making activities, the Investment Director will work with TRV and Teradyne leadership to support portfolio companies and identify future areas of investment focus, in addition to acting in a managerial and mentorship capacity to develop and grow the junior team.

Roles & Responsibilities Deal sourcing and execution: Lead assigned team on all stages of investment for a deal, including origination, market analysis, modeling, due diligence, structuring, legal documentation, negotiation, and Investment Committee presentations. Thesis development: Lead discovery and analysis of emerging themes to guide future investment focus areas and decision-making. Network: Build and maintain relationships with startup founders and management teams, investors, corporate executives, and other relevant players. Portfolio support: Add value to existing portfolio companies by becoming a trusted advisor and providing introductions to relevant customers, investors, and potential hires, in addition to internal corporate stakeholders; serve as board representative and help portfolio companies navigate distressed situations and eventual sale/divestment. Internal stakeholder management: Develop and maintain relationships with Teradyne executives and operating unit managers to support thesis development, opportunity identification and validation, and portfolio support. Brand building: Regularly extend TRV’s reach in relevant venture capital and technology communities through event attendance/hosting, appearance on podcasts and other media, and self-authored thought leadership. Operations: Provide management and oversight of the junior team for day-to-day fund operations, including internal stakeholder and portfolio reporting, along with internal marketing efforts. Management and development: Act in a mentorship capacity for the junior team, helping them develop the critical skills to advance and grow in their careers Qualifications

The Investment Director must be a versatile, end-to-end executor of CVC operations, capable of serving in multiple roles in a small group. Particular skill and experience is required in:

Filtering the deal pipeline using defensible analytical methods, leveraging operating unit expertise and connections with existing investors. Managing the execution of deals, including managing outside counsel, term sheet and side letter negotiations. Diligence in approving deals, particularly with respect to financial forecasts, vetting co-investors, qualifying the market.

General qualifications include:

7+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, venture capital, management consulting, specifically in technology. Proven track record of sourcing, evaluating, diligencing, and closing deals, and/or leadership experience at a high-growth tech startup. Strong executive presence with superior communication and presentation skills. Ability to “speak the language” and work with operating unit managers who have quarterly P&L responsibilities. Comfort and ability working on multiple deals at a time, under tight deadlines and changing requirements. Careful tracking and prioritizing of actions is required. Collaborative team player, with the ability to work independently as the need arises. Capable of forging long-lasting and high-quality relationships with startup founders, investors, and corporate executives. Strong existing deal pipeline and network in commercial automation a plus. Prior startup board experience a plus.
