Through WRS, the state's public employers can offer cost-effective retirement benefits that attract and retain highly qualified professionals. WRS has grown to include over 78,000 non-federal public employees in the State of Wyoming. Currently, the combined value of the plans managed by the investment staff is approximately $11 billion, and those investments are divided among equity (both private and public), fixed income, and alternative investment, including real estate and hedge funds. WRS is administered by an 11-member Board, which hires an Executive Director to oversee a staff of about 50 employees. The Board has delegated all investment decisions to investment staff. Based on actuarial assumptions adopted by the Board, it is estimated that the portfolio must generate a compounded annual rate of return of 6.80% to provide the assets needed to meet benefit obligations. This summer program is open to undergraduate and graduate-level students, preferably during the summer prior to graduation. WRS is looking for students with an outstanding record of academic achievement and an interest in the financial markets. Educational major or discipline is not as critical. The Investment Intern(s) will be responsible for conducting research and analysis in support of the investment strategy objectives of assigned investment classes. This position will work with the Chief Investment Officer ("CIO"), Senior Investment Officers ("SIOs"), Investment Officer and Investment Analysts to manage WRS' investments and asset classes. Each intern will assist in the coverage of one or more of the following asset class categories: equity, fixed income, and alternative investments. If there is a permanent Investment Analyst position available at WRS upon graduation, an investment intern will be well-positioned for an offer.
