Investment Operations Analyst – Trade Operations

The Hartford is proud to offer a hybrid work location model that is designed to support flexibility. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are designated as enterprise core days, when we expect employees in hybrid work arrangements to come to the office (Hartford, CT)

This position is within HIMCO Business Operations, which is responsible for the comprehensive operational support of HIMCO’s Investment Operating Platform including the underlying Investment (IBOR) and Accounting (ABOR) Book of Record.  The Investment Operations Analyst position will be assigned to the Trade Operations team within Business Operations.

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?

This position will join a team responsible for Trade Operations oversight of fixed income, equity, alternative assets and OTC derivatives.

Public Trade confirmation – Independent verification of key economic terms of executed fixed income and equity trades with various brokers to confirm accuracy.  Confirmation/Allocation/Affirmation is done electronically utilizing via DTCC products CTM, ALERT and Trade Suite with brokers.

Identify and resolve trade settlement failures at custodian and work with traders, broker and/or custodian to resolve trade fails in a timely manner.

Responsible for ensuring Investment Book of Record (IBOR) and Accounting (ABOR) transactional data is entered in a timely and accurately manner.  Reconcile and resolve breaks for financial reporting and investment management needs.

Prepare and instruct high value cash and asset transfers in accordance with internal guidelines and with strict protection of clients’ confidential banking and investment data.

Reconcile Derivative positions between internal and external brokers to ensure systems accurate reflect positions/exposures.

Trade confirmation/settlement of OTC derivative products including currency rate swaps, swaptions, equity/commodity options and other non-vanilla derivatives.  This includes review of paper confirms for accuracy of economic factors and confirming brokers trade recaps at time of trade.

Responsible for wire settlement, entering and/or managing transactions in internal systems for alternative assets which include Private Equity LPs, Private Equity Debt/Equity, Private Placements, CMLs, JV Equities, Real Estate LPs, Hedge Funds, Bank Loans and structured private deals.

Develop and maintain detailed procedures and evidence of process controls to cross-train peers, support requests from auditors, and fulfil mandated testing of controls in a highly regulated industry

Provide timely support to many internal HIMCO clients, including, Portfolio Managers, Investment Sectors, Financial Reporting, Performance Measurement, and Client Reporting Teams

Strive for continuous process improvement, in particular by working with custodial banks and software vendors to fully utilize system capabilities, implement new tools, and streamline processes

Participate in projects within Business Operations as needed, including regulatory or client initiated changes or the testing and implementation support of IT development releases

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

BS/BA degree in Finance, Business or related filed; MBA or CFA a plus.

5+ years of experience in Investment Management Operations or Middle Office roles.

Broad understanding of securities processing and settlement practices across Fixed Income and Equity asset management.

Experienced with Bloomberg for Public Asset research and with Excel for reporting and analytics.

Familiarity with Investment, Accounting, or Performance Measurement systems required; experience with Aladdin, Maximis or Singularity a plus.

High degree of initiative and intellectual curiosity, especially in Investments.

Exceptional analytical skills, detail oriented, and strong oral and written communications skills.

Must be a collaborator, problem solver, critical thinker, possess integrity and a strong work ethic.

Ability to work independently on concurrent tasks and adhere to deadlines with evolving priorities.

Able to meet high expectations for precision and accuracy.

Willingness to take ownership of complex workflows and projects.

Used to measuring work volume through detailed metrics, KPIs, reporting, trend analyses, etc. 

Prior support of Derivatives or Alternative Asset Operations, such as Commercial Mortgage Loans, Private Equity, Private Direct Lending, Private Placement Debt is a plus.

Experience with DTCC ITP products (CTM, ALERT & Trade Suite), MarkitWire ,TriOptima or Wall Street Office a plus.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$82,400 - $123,600
