Investment Strategy Associate

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Pension Strategy and Solutions team at Mercer. This role will be based in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and other locations where Mercer is present. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

What can you expect?

The Pension Strategy and Solutions Associate will be part of the Pension Strategy and Solutions Group within Mercer’s Wealth Business

The team develops asset allocation strategy, portfolio structure, risk transfer strategy, and journey planning for clients, with a focus on single-employer defined benefit plans.

We will count on you to:

Provide analytical support to lead investment strategists on strategic asset allocation studies, glide path design and liability hedge portfolio construction

Consultant on 7-10 clients at a given time; performing modeling, running reports, preparing decks, working with other members of the Pension Strategy & Solutions Group on buyout and journey planning projects for investment and/or actuarial clients

Work with spreadsheets and various modelling tools to produce detailed numerical analysis of the client’s risk profile and the impact of risk on key financial metrics

Able to adapt technical modelling tools for specific client situations and deal with technical queries on the modelling methods and tools used; perform research and integrate findings into modelling

Help monitor investment de-risking trigger points for glide path clients

Work closely with client service teams to prepare quarterly reporting materials, including funded status performance and attribution analysis

Perform liability and asset risk analysis utilizing risk modeling tools

What you need to have:

BA/BS degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, or other business-related areas having strong quantitative and analytical analysis.

3+ years of relevant experience in a pension-related actuarial or investment role

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, with actuarial and pension liability background, and will be able to apply processes and procedures to support the strategy setting process and client on-boarding process. Must have the ability to work autonomously and to co-ordinate across multiple parts of the business

Strong quantitative skills, project management and communication skills

The candidate will be able to develop an understanding of pension risk management and liability hedge portfolio construction techniques and methodologies

High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Ability to multitask, manage multiple priorities and work in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment. High-level attention to detail and an understanding of its application to the bigger picture. Ability to acclimate quickly to understand asset-liability risk management and business concepts and apply critical thinking to the issues which will arise during projects.

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $67,000 to $134,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
