The purpose of this classification is to coordinate International Organization for Standardization certification and educational programs for the Water Resources Department. What you'll be doing: + Oversee environmental certification program and educational program + Maintain and e nsure compliance with ISO 14001 environmental certification program: facilitates meetings with certification team; trains department employees, liaisons, contractors regarding program rules, regulations, and requirements; schedules and performs audits; identifies deficiencies and needed improvements; documents corrective actions; review effectiveness of implemented actions; ensures and recommends continuous improvement of and prevention of environmental pollution; and maintains and updates related materials and documentation. + Develop and present educational and outreach programs to schools, community groups and the general public + Lead the educational program by scheduling and conducting tours of the water plants, participating in special events and representing the department at community events, offering presentations to customers and schools, and other activities as needed + Provide resources, research and consulting in the area of water quality + Maintains department website: transfers, maintains and updates information, photographs, lab reports and other data and information; writes and edits web content; and prepares and posts information regarding department programs and other relevant information. + Serve as liaison on the Incident Command team. This requires the ability to be available for extended hours during an emergency. It also requires attendance in training exercises throughout the year. Communicate technical/complex information to NC Department of Environmental Quality - Division of Public Water Supply and area critical customers. + Performs other duties in support of department operations; notarizes documents; calls critical customers during major events; assists other departments in becoming ISO certified; assists with payroll; or other duties as assigned. + Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, contractors, the public, outside governmental agencies and organizations, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. + Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives, reviews, prepares, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate various forms, reports, correspondence, audit and compliance reports, lists, logs, charts, laboratory results, standard operating procedures, emergency plans, notices of violations, meeting minutes, training records and materials, brochures, fliers, articles, presentations, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered : Bachelor Arts/ Bachelor of Science degree in Enviornmental Science, Biology or Chemistry or a related field required. Skills in environmental program preferred but not required. Will consider three years of experience in any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Ability to obtain a "C" Surface Water Treatment license within two years. Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
