Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit Plan, design, implement and support stable and secure enterprise central and client IT systems infrastructure. ITS Enterprise Systems supports more than 21,000 students, faculty, and staff by administering and/or supporting the campus enterprise server infrastructure, enterprise databases, and client computing infrastructure. All the core technology services offered by the University rely on the successful design, development, implementation, growth, maintenance, and monitoring of the campus systems infrastructure. Position Summary The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an IT architect and senior engineer who specializes in designing and maintaining large and complex on-prem, hybrid, and cloud-based data systems. This position plays a key role in developing the strategic direction for the Systems Center platform, Active Directory, and related systems to support enterprise-class services. This position is responsible for analyzing the university’s business, data, and application strategy to develop a cohesive architectural model, and will be required to work on multiple projects that include complex integration efforts and the transitioning of applications to new technologies. This position is responsible for working with administrators from other areas of ITS and the University, including networking, identity, licensing, security, and compliance to provide technical roadmap discussions, architectural solutions, and management of critical enterprise systems infrastructure, particularly, within Windows, MacOS, and iOS framework, and will require existing and/or learned expertise with services such as Microsoft Intune, Azure Active Directory Join, Jamf Pro, Jamf Pro Connect, Apple School Manager, and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Anti-Malware. This position examines external and internal technology, long-term trends, and implications of alternative approaches, and articulates those concepts to other internal staff. This position will utilize in-depth knowledge of software engineering, cloud technologies, and data engineering to define target architectures, patterns, and processes. This position will lead and/or support tool and technology selection and drive standardization and reuse of industry-leading technology across the organization. This position will lead and/or support the evaluation and selection process for application packages to satisfy solution requests and related university needs. This position collaborates with ITS management in setting guidelines and standards to ensure systems are consistent with ITS’ and UNCG’s long-term strategies. This position provides technical direction to project teams to understand and can explain the interrelationship of multiple concepts and can translate these concepts, ideas, and situations into clear, understandable, and simple terms. Evaluate and recommend appropriate changes to systems policies, processes, and procedures to reduce or eliminate those that become ineffective or unnecessary as systems are modified or updated. Evaluate supported systems performance and identify and execute systems tuning processes to increase system efficiency. Represent the supported systems and associated technical staff within the IT support organization. Evaluate the supported organization’s strategic plans against current system capabilities to determine the ability of current systems to meet future needs. Prepare plans to integrate new capabilities, technologies, or processes into the administration of supported systems to meet the needs of the supported organization. Migrate UNCG from SCCM and Active Directory (including Group Policy) to Microsoft Intune and Azure Active Directory. Administer Intune, including creating Intune compliance policies, deploying applications, and managing operating system and 3rd party application updates. Evaluate and recommend changes to compliance policies, processes, and procedures to reduce or eliminate those that become ineffective or unnecessary as systems are modified or updated. Serve as tier 3 (engineering) subject matter expert support for issues within the platform and resolve issues as needed. Own and administer Microsoft Defender for Endpoint anti-malware for UNCG. Provide reporting to leadership on the state of the Windows environment on a regular cadence and prepare for any needed updates and resourcing. Designated as the primary owner of the Windows endpoint management environment. Maintain integration with Azure Active Directory, Apple School Manager, and Asset Management for increased ease of delivery and understanding of endpoint assignment. Serve as tier 3 (engineering) subject matter expert support for issues within the platform and resolve issues as needed. Provide reporting to leadership on the state of the macOS/iOS environment on a regular cadence and prepare for any needed updates and resourcing.
