IT Generalist I

Job Description: Technical Support & Maintenance
Configures and maintains network devices, server hardware, operating systems and associated services. Provide IT support for Forestry, Geomatics, and Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences programs, including on-site assistance for faculty, staff, and students at Reed Lab, Millhopper FAS facility, and remote locations. Support includes PC/Mac hardware and software, printers, scanners, smartphones, desk phones, A/V equipment, and specialized lab devices (microscopes, cytometers, drones, VR headsets). Troubleshoot IT and A/V issues for conferences, meetings, and classes. System Administration & Network Management
Administer the school's computer network, managing users, service accounts, servers, workstations, web servers, and network drives within IFAS/UFAD. Oversee email services for employees and visiting faculty. Manage Active Directory groups for network access, office printers, software control, and remote desktop connections. Create and remove user accounts as needed. Security & Compliance
Handle security issues, assign permissions to network resources, manage data encryption and device disposal, and mitigate malware threats. Assist with GatorLink and email account management. Procurement & Budgeting
Coordinate plans, schedules and requirements for the deployment of systems and software. Maintain records of software licenses and oversee software licensing agreements. Track IT budget and manage purchasing documentation. Website & Digital Media Support
Maintain and update the FFGS website, granting appropriate editing permissions. Provide guidance on digital imaging and media for publications and instruction. Train faculty, staff, and students on digital image management and editing. Software & Vendor Management
Designs, develops, tests, debugs, installs, implements, modifies, and supports new or existing applications software in accordance with standard practices. Consult with faculty, staff, and students on specialized software such as CAD, Erdas Imagine, StarNet, Envi, Matlab, SAS, SPSS, ArcGIS, and Adobe. Evaluates equipment, components, and software for use in moderately complex Information Technology systems and solutions; may interface with vendors as necessary. Supervise End User Computing Spec I (POS 00014383) and OPS/STAS assistants. Additional Duties as Assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of the University of Florida academic policies is helpful. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows Operating Systems and Computer Network Administration, including related security processes; ability to develop and maintain Access databases; knowledge of web design and the desire to learn new web design and graphic programs; knowledge of general office procedures and office equipment; and ability to fix simple mechanical problems with office equipment.

Knowledge of Power BI and Power Automate. Knowledge of and understanding of UFIT and UF/IFAS IT policies and procedures.

Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to learn quickly and independently, demonstrated analytical ability; good verbal and written communication skills, ability to understand and independently apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the task assigned. Mature and sensible attitude necessary for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others is essential.
