IT Generalist I
Job Description:Established in 2022, the Hamilton Center for Classical and Civic Education is a multidisciplinary academic unit whose purpose is to support teaching and research concerning the ideas, traditions, and texts that shape Western civilization and American values and institutions. The Center also seeks to promote civil discourse and the ethics of citizenship, and to prepare students to see past their horizons and prepare for a lifetime of leadership and meaningful careers.
The Hamilton Center is seeking an IT Generalist I to provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students. This position will manage hardware, software, and AV systems, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the smooth operation of all IT services across the department. The IT Generalist I will also assist with hardware procurement and asset management.
Primary duties include:
IT Support: Provide troubleshooting and technical assistance for hardware, software, and AV systems. Support the installation, configuration, and upgrading of hardware and software for faculty, staff, and students. Ensure all systems and applications are running efficiently and meet user needs. Oversee the maintenance and operation of Xerox printers within the department. AV Equipment Management: Support and maintain AV equipment in shared spaces (e.g., classrooms, conference rooms). Provide technical support during events and meetings to ensure seamless operation of AV technologies. Hardware Management: Assist with the procurement, installation, and deployment of new IT hardware, including computers and peripherals. Collaborate with vendors and the UF IT community to stay updated on technology trends and best practices. Maintain an organized record of all IT assets, including computers, printers, and other hardware. Inventory & Asset Management: Track and manage department IT assets. Special Projects: Assist with special projects such as setting up technology for academic events, faculty visits, and lectures. Provide additional technical support for department initiatives as needed. Expected Salary:$60,000 - $65,000; commensurate based on education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Preferred experience and skills include:
Proficiency with AV technology and video conferencing systems. Excellent troubleshooting skills and extensive experience with a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and especially macOS/Apple products. Knowledge of IT inventory management and hardware/software maintenance. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
