This position will have a start date of June 9, 2025.
Information Technology Services (ITS) currently has an opening for an IT Network Engineer II position in Coeur d'Alene. This position will support various State agencies and will develop, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot complex computer, data, voice, and video networking infrastructure; including network administration, installation, and maintenance of network infrastructure; and perform related work. This position will work as part of the Network or Datacenter network team.
These positions will manage, troubleshoot, and implement complex computer, data, voice and video networking infrastructure; including network administration, installation and maintenance of network infrastructure; provide leadership in the design, enhancement, implementation, and consultation on complex enterprise networks, support, manage, maintain, troubleshoot and enterprise networks; perform related work. This position will work as part of the Lan Wan Wi-Fi network team.
The IT Network Engineer II will maintain the complex LAN/WAN/WLAN networking systems and be responsible for the installation and configuration of the network, router, firewall, and wireless infrastructure for agency networks. Provide technical analysis and subject matter expertise and support for networks, servers, and related systems. Analyze and resolve network and data communications problems. Work requires the exercise of independent judgment and initiative with minimal direction and takes guidance from Network Engineer IIIs and above as needed.
The ideal candidates will have the following interpersonal and technical skills:
+ Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) or higher certification.
+ Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA) – or higher certification.
+ Experience with network management in an enterprise environment.
+ Experience with Juniper Junos and/or Cisco IOS, IOS-XE.
+ Experience with management of DHCP.
+ Experience using Juniper Mist cloud platform.
+ Experience using SolarWinds Orion.
+ Experience with installation of wireless access points.
+ Good knowledge of Ethernet and Datacenter topologies.
+ Good knowledge of routing and switching protocols including but not limited to OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN’s and spanning tree.
+ Cabling experience in an enterprise and/or datacenter environment.
+ Good knowledge of cable testers, tone generators and locating cable runs?
+ Experience maintaining network document with a minimum of 1 year of experience with Microsoft Visio.
+ Good organizational skills: able to work on multiple tasks and maintain task priority.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills with both customers and team members.
+ Ability to work as part of an on-call, 24/7/365 shift rotation schedule.
+ Travel throughout the State is occasionally required.

Example of duties:
+ Works with customers to understand and explain business and technical issues in an enterprise class environment.
+ Responds to user problems, explains new technologies and presents deliverables.
+ Evaluates and plans implementation and use of moderately complex network systems.
+ Participates on projects and/or network maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
+ Understands resource requirements to maintain or upgrade service levels.
+ Assists in network planning, design/engineering, architecture development, and the creation of technical standards.
+ Evaluates new products and resolves network problems as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Good knowledge of:
+ Current LAN, WAN, or SD-WAN networks that support voice, data, video, and wireless client connections. Typically gained by a college degree directly related to information technology OR at least two years of work experience with LAN, WAN or SD-WAN technologies in a medium to large business environment AND by possession of a professional vendor certification in router, switch or SD-WAN technologies. Experience must be within the last two years. (Definitions: LAN = Local Area Network, WAN = Wide Area Network, SD-WAN = Software Defined Wide Area Network)
Experience:
+ Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting networks in a business or data center environment and resolving network problems. Typically met by at least two years of full-time experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting networks in a business or data center environment, and resolving network problems.
+ Working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for a wide variety of uses. Typically met by at least two years of full-time work experience supporting a business network as part of the primary job responsibilities. Experience must be within the last two years.
+ Using network troubleshooting, monitoring, and diagnostic tools to resolve network issues. Typically gained by at least two years of full-time job experience using network troubleshooting, monitoring, and diagnostic tools to resolve network issues.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Experience configuring Cisco or Juniper routing and switching equipment in a business environment. Typically met by at least one year of full-time work experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting routers and switches from either Cisco or Juniper Networks as part of the primary job responsibilities.
+ Knowledge of basic concepts of IP routed and switched networks. Typically met by at least one year of full-time work experience utilizing concepts in network topologies and basic theory of routing versus switching.
+ Experience working with non-technical customers and technical coworkers who may be unfamiliar with networking and are having problems with their network connectivity. Typically met by at least one year of full-time work experience addressing customer complaints and resolving their network-related issues to their complete satisfaction as part of the primary job responsibilities.
+ Knowledge of basic network security concepts. Typically met by at least one year of full-time work experience staying current on network security principles and trends as part of the primary job responsibilities.
+ Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity problems in IP routed networks. Typically met by at least one year of full-time work experience working within a team environment to troubleshoot complex, intermittent network performance problems in an IP routed network as part of the primary job responsibilities.
+ Knowledge of basic concepts of servers, virtual machines, virtual hosts and virtual switches. Typically met by at least one year of full-time work experience.
