IT Specialist
Summary This position is located in the Network Administration (JNDN) organization of Infrastructure Services (JND), Enterprise Technology Operations Services (JN), Information Technology (J). A successful candidate in this position will serve as a Senior IT Specialist developing and deploying the Cisco Systems Software Defined Network/Application Centric Infrastructure (SDN/ACI) architecture, with expertise in all aspects of Enterprise IT Network Information Security Systems and technologies. Responsibilities As an IT Specialist, you will: Review information technology security policy, guidelines, and procedures for systems processing multiple applications that require differing security controls and are typically accessed by a moderate-to-large user community. Implements, and coordinates activities designed to ensure, protect, and restore IT systems, services, and capabilities. Ensures the continuing accessibility and availability of a variety of mission critical applications. Perform a variety of work involving analysis, planning, design, documentation, assessment, and management of the IT enterprise structural framework to align IT strategy, plans, and systems with the mission, goals, and business processes of the organization. Perform a variety of work involving applying analytical processes to the planning, design and implementation of new and improved information systems to meet the business requirements of customer organizations. Perform a variety of work involving planning, analysis, design, development, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance, and/or management of networked systems used for the transmission of information in voice, data, and/or video formats. This position must be a subject matter expert on and provide direct oversight of development, implementation, management and maintenance of Cisco Systems Software Defined Network Architecture/Application Centric Infrastructure (SDN/ACI) and the components of SDN/ACI to include its endpoints and policies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENT: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. To meet this requirement, you must demonstrate proficiency in each of the four competencies listed above as follows: Advanced - You can perform the actions associated with each of these competencies without assistance. You are recognized within your immediate organization as "a person to ask" when difficult questions arise regarding each of these competencies. Focus is on broad organizational/professional issues; You have consistently provided practical/relevant ideas and perspectives on process or practice improvements which may easily be implemented; You are capable of coaching others in the application of each of these competencies by translating complex nuances relating to each competency into easy to understand terms; You participate in senior level discussions regarding these competencies; You assist in the development of reference and resource materials in these competencies. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Specialized experience for this position is defined as: (1) Integrating IT programs and services and developing solutions to critical IT issues; (2) developing, managing, and maintaining Cisco Software Defined Network/Application Centric Infrastructure (SDN/ACI) architecture; (3) developing and interpreting policies in order to make decisions that significantly influence important IT policies or programs. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
