Summary About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the Joint Interagency Task Force South, C41 Systems Directorate, Information Systems Div., U.S. Southern Command, Key West, Fl, J63. Responsibilities Serves as the organization expert and technical authority in hardware installation for telecommunications, radio communications, and sensory communication systems. Makes decisions or recommendations to change, interpret, or develop policies or programs. Develops operating procedures and standardized methods related to equipment operations techniques and maintenance. Identifies information systems and services shortfalls, problems, specific issues, and opportunities; recommends solutions and improvements. Plans, organizes, and directs studies on communications and advises top-level agency telecommunications and subject-matter managers on applying new developments. Provides guidance to operating-level telecommunications managers on matters such as the application of new technology activity systems. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience to the next lower grade (GS/GG-12) which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience with 1) installing and troubleshooting hardware for telecommunication networks in an operating environment, such as, local area network (LAN), network infrastructure, and network protocols; and 2) providing guidance on security policies, installation, or maintenance procedures for telecommunication network systems. In addition to the specialized experience listed above, your resume must show you have Information Technology-related experience. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT and should include information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: 1. This position is designated as KEY, meaning the position cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission. This position includes unique, or scarce managerial or technical skills required by the wartime mission and cannot be held by someone in reserve status. When visiting site locations, will be required to bend, stoop, crouch, crawl into small areas, climb ladders, etc., to inspect and assess equipment and supporting facilities. The majority of the work will be done in an office setting. However, the incumbent will be exposed to dirty, dusty, noisy, and inclement weather when conducting inspections. This is a(n) 2210 Series Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Advance in hire maybe authorized.
