Responsibilities You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) under the Activity Command Information Officer (ACIO), Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC), Wallops Island, VA. You will serve as Network Engineer tasked with the oversight and management of the organization’s network infrastructure. You will be responsible for the maintenance, design, upgrade, and administration of the Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDTE) networks at SCSC Wallops Island. You will successfully design and implement network architectures across various government sites, including Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide-Area Networks (WAN), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and wireless networks. You will proactively monitor network performance metrics to identify and resolve network issues promptly, utilizing advanced troubleshooting techniques to minimize downtime and impact on operations. You will manage network infrastructure projects from initiation to completion, including planning, budgeting, coordination with stakeholders, and ensuring timely delivery. You will work towards continuous improvement of the network by analyzing network traffic patterns and forecasting future needs to plan and implement network expansion and modernization. You will develop and implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans for network configuration and critical data to ensure continuity in case of network failure. You will regularly update network hardware and software to keep up with new technologies and standards and perform routine network maintenance, including firmware updates and hardware replacements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-02 pay band (GS-11 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: analyzing network architectures to forecast future needs and ensure the successful and effective design or implementation of a network expansion or modernization project. Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. Education Additional Information This position is part of the Department of Defense Civilian Acquisition Workforce Personnel Demonstration Project. The NH-03 broadband level encompasses positions equivalent to GS-12 and GS-13.
