IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN/OS)
Summary You will serve as an Integration and Testing (I&T) Systems Administrator providing information technology support incorporating technology into the Office of Naval Intelligence enterprise. You will perform the installation, configuration, customization, and testing of Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications. This position is located within the Integration and Development Department (N5) of HOPPER GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS CENTER in Suitland, Maryland. Responsibilities You will be expected to independently administer information technology (IT) systems to ensure effective system operation and be able to research and implement solutions and/or new technologies. You will plan and carry out difficult and complex assignments utilizing information technology (IT) systems and services to include installation, operation, and maintenance of automated communications systems and other desktop technologies. You will perform the installation, configuration, customization, and testing of systems and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications. You will create custom application patches based on source code repositories. You will maintain a software development environment consisting of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Apple macOS systems that includes support infrastructure such as network switches, file servers, and hypervisors. You will develop integration, testing, and deployment plans, and execute those plans as necessary. You will be responsible for installing and testing system security configuration, monitoring, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining workstation and server hardware and software. You will develop and maintain technical and operational documentation to support hardware/software lifecycle (installation, operation, change, and removal). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: 1. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. In addition to the competencies listed above, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GG/GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems to ensure functionality, performance, and availability of services; Perform the installation, configuration, customization, and testing of systems and desktop Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications; Develop, recommend, and implement strategy and design for installation and configuration of hardware and software to meet current and future requirements; Provide technical guidance and advice integrating systems into the information technology (IT) architecture of an organization; Verify application and systems to meet security compliance through review of security scans and security technical implementation guides (STIGs). Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the Cyber IT/CSWF Qualification Matrix (described in SECNAV M-5239.2) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position to which you are assigned, and; --2. Participate in a continuous learning program as described in SECNAVINST 1543.2. A minimum of 40 hours of Cyber IT/CSWF related continuous learning annually documented in a current individual development plan signed by both the employee and supervisor. This position performs a primary cyber work role 451-System Administrator per the DoD Cyber Workforce Framework.
