Position Summary
In this essential role within the City’s Information Technology department you will assist City technology users and provide hardware and software support at various sites in the City. The person in this role must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and provide exceptional service to all City Department Heads, the City Manager, other City employees, vendors, other government agencies, and the general public.

Work Week: Typically Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm; occasional flexibility in schedule may be required
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
+ Assist technology users in the resolution of computer, electronic devices and phone system hardware and software problems;
+ Coordinate and/or perform repairs at the desktop level;
+ Monitor and test repairs to ensure problems are resolved;
+ Assess the need for system reconfigurations;
+ Identify, recommend, develop, and implement end-user training programs;
+ Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the operation of all information technology equipment, City operations and services including Public Safety specific hardware and software;
+ Develop and maintain an inventory of all PC related hardware and software;
+ Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
+ Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
+ Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
+ Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
+ Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
+ Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
Minimum Required Qualifications
+ Associate's Degree in Computer Science or related field; and
+ Two years of progressively responsible experience providing technology support services, or
+ Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Substantial knowledge of principles and techniques of personal computer uses and applications, electronic mail, word processing, data processing operations and systems, spreadsheet programs, database programs and networking systems;
+ Substantial knowledge of computer hardware;
+ Substantial knowledge with desktop operating systems;
+ Substantial knowledge of the operating characteristics, capabilities, capacities, and limitation of computer systems and related peripheral equipment;
+ Substantial knowledge of electronic devices (tablets, etc.) and phone system hardware and software;
+ Some knowledge of Web Content Management Systems (CMS);
+ Some knowledge of the principles and methods of training and instructing others in appropriate computer use and operation;
+ Ability to effectively troubleshoot and repair information technology equipment;
+ Ability to provide effective training and instruction to others, and to communicate with novice, intermediate, and advance users of personal computers;
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and data;
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other employees, vendors, and the general public;
+ Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
+ Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;
+ Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations;
+ Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks;
+ Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;
+ Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
+ Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
+ Integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks;
+ Consistently performs assignments in accordance with the City’s Core Values of Integrity, Leadership, Service and Teamwork.
Required Special Qualifications
+ A+ Certification is preferred;
+ Microsoft desktop certifications are preferred;
+ Valid Montana Class D Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment;
+ Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory response to a criminal background, which includes a 10 point fingerprint card, social security trace, search of public data bases for criminal, sexual and violent offender, NCIC/CJIN and local records checks, and a thorough reference check.
