Department Summary
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Information Technology (IT) Transformation Department (P822) is responsible for enabling the achievement of IRS Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Strategic Operating Plan (SOP) objectives, initiatives and projects. As an IT Systems Engineer you will support relevant projects that assess IRS IT systems, determine problems, provide solutions to issues that arise, design systems, upgrade systems, maintain systems and brainstorm possible improvements that can be made to a system in the future.
Job Responsibilities
Work with a spectrum of government sponsors to gain understanding of their technical challenges, evaluate possible solutions, conduct insightful technical analyses, and develop actionable recommendations.Apply systems engineering methodologies to real world problems.Conduct analyses and studies that support transition from current to future state technologies within the framework of the IRS tax ecosystem. Conduct studies, develop operating models, roadmaps, and implementation plans that enable operationalization of IT system recommendations.Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner that can be understood by all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise. Perform duties as a project leader, overseeing the scope, schedule, cost, risk and quality of a designated project.Basic Qualifications
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.At least four years as a project manager/leader directing complex IT-related projects.Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated ability to decompose IT systems and identify dependencies and relationships with other IT systems and to integrate those systems throughout a digital ecosystem.Demonstrated ability to assess IT systems across their entire lifecycle from conceptualization to retirement.Demonstrated ability to perform systems engineering activities within a hybrid, multi-cloud ecosystem.Demonstrated ability to apply the seven IT “-ilities” of availability, maintainability, usability, scalability, extensibility, security, and portability when considering IT solutions.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact comfortably with senior leaders and executivesApplicants selected for this position will be subject to an IRS security requirements and must meet eligibility requirements for access to sensitive information.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-sitePreferred Qualifications
