MCHS is a mission critical 24X7 system built using open source software products, along with state owned custom developed application software. The system is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux running within a virtual machine. The PostgreSQL DBMS is used to store Mississippi criminal history repository data. Developed software is written in C and C++ with embedded SQL and in Java using JDBC. An extensive web interface is used for reporting, application management, and statistics. In addition, tailored web applications provide processing support to CIC staff for functions including court ordered expunctions, arrest dispositions, civil background check requests, and repository maintenance. Shell and other scripting tools are used for system and application admin functions. Secure email using Postfix and Dovecot packages is used to interface with fingerprint scanning stations throughout the state and with the FBI NGI system.
