We are happy to discuss remote or hybrid working and welcome applications from across the UK. You may need to travel occasionally within the UK, including to Manchester, Birmingham, or Newcastle, as needed. All applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) to Security Check (SC) level as a minimum.
As a Java Engineer at CGI, you will design, build and maintain Java-based software solutions within an agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Key duties include:
- Designing and developing Java-based software components and microservices
- Writing, testing and documenting code using best practices in Java development
- Ensuring adherence to secure coding standards and cloud security best practices
- Supporting troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
- Contributing to system architecture, integration, and cloud deployment strategies
- Java Development: Strong programming skills in Java (Java 8+), Spring Boot, and microservices architecture
- Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure services such as Lambda, API Gateway, Kubernetes, or Terraform
- Software Design: Understanding of modern software development trends, architecture, and integration with cloud and DevOps pipelines
- Secure Software Development: Awareness of security best practices and secure coding standards for Java applications
Desirable:
- Experience working in agile teams and government digital services
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes) and automated deployments
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across various disciplines
