Jockey Driver

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6am -2:30pm

The Yard Jockey plays a vital role in ensuring smooth and safe operations within our yard. This position involves operating a tractor to switch containers between the shipping dock and the yard parking area, while also monitoring equipment to maintain operational standards.

Primary Tasks & Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough pre- and post-shift safety inspections on equipment.Operate and adjust trailer refrigeration systems (reefer units) and monitor temperatures to ensure compliance.Monitor and maintain fuel levels on attached gensets.Safely hook, unhook, and maneuver containers, demonstrating exceptional backing and precision driving skills.Perform physically demanding tasks, such as replacing wheel chocks, opening container doors, and adjusting container positions.Enter and exit the yard tractor safely multiple times per shift.Apply security seals, pin locks, and glad hand locks to ensure container safety.Maintain clear communication with the shipping and receiving departments to coordinate movements.Complete regular yard checks and ensure accurate, up-to-date records, including temperature and fuel checks.Keep switching equipment clean, organized, and in optimal working condition.Ensure the truck yard is always organized and orderly.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent.Basic proficiency in reading, writing, and math.At least 12 months of recent CDL-A yard switching experience.Strong professional communication skills, both verbal and written.A professional appearance and a positive, company-oriented demeanor.Commitment to Good Warehouse Practices (GWP) and food safety protocols.Familiarity with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point System (HACCP) practices.Ability to follow and enforce food safety and quality standards.

Food Safety: Ensure proper handling, storage, and distribution of safe, quality food products within the facility.

This role requires a safety-conscious, detail-oriented individual with strong container switching skills and a commitment to food safety standards. The ideal candidate is proactive in monitoring reefer unit temperatures and fuel levels to ensure smooth operations.
