JOCKEY ROOM CUSTODIAN

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Jockey Room Custodian is responsible for attending to Jockeys and assisting the Clerk of Scales by performing the following duties.

Ensures that Jockeys scheduled to ride are dressed with riding equipment that meets track specifications Inspects Jockeys for specified colors silks, saddle numbers and additional riding equipment Maintains order and cleans jockey room, dressings & riding equipment Examines weighted pads to define that they meet track specifications

Performs all other duties assigned by management.

QUALFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or up to one month related experience and/or training; or

equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess strong communication skills, be flexible and detail oriented. Must be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing License. Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
