Joint Interest Accountant

The role of Joint Interest Accountant will require an individual who understands the principles of COPAS accounting. This individual will be responsible for multiple company billing allocations to include labor, equipment, and insurance. The job requires the ability to work with others, multi-task and meet deadlines as assigned.


 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Review monthly JIB charges for proper accounting treatmentPrepare and record monthly company labor billing in accordance with COPAS and applicable JOAsPrepare and record monthly co-owned asset related chargesCollaborate with Operations on needed information and assisting with the preparation of billing newly acquired co-owned assets and annual review of company rates in accordance with COPAS guidelinesPrepare and record monthly insurance charges; includes working with appropriate departments for annual amortization of insurance policy renewalsRecord monthly gas buyback fees to wellsRecord monthly geosteering cost to wellsReview and approve monthly allocation well setup/changesPrepare and record monthly drilling and operating overhead in accordance with COPAS and applicable JOAs; includes updating yearly increase or decrease as determined by COPASMonthly review of charges in suspense and staking and permitting account for charges that can billedPrepare and record entries to reclass costs from the lease level to the AFE level as neededParticipate in coordinating and responding to JIB auditsAssist with monthly expense reporting and analysisPost-closing variance analysis, accruals, and reportingMonthly balance sheet account reconciliations as assignedInvestigate and understand unusual transactionsCollaborate with multiple departments as necessaryOther duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (BS) in AccountingThree (3+) or more years of Oil and Gas accounting experience in joint interest accounting and/or joint venture accounting/auditThree (3+) or more years of demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

SAP experience preferredHigh degree of accuracy and attention to detailGood problem solving and critical thinking skillsAbility to operate both independently and as part of a team Flexible regarding workload and priorities Ability to pick up on new concepts quickly Effective communication skills within the organization and with outside partiesPossess a positive and team-oriented attitude
