Journeyman Database Analyst

Amentum is now hiring a , Journeyman Database Analyst position in support of the Field, Lab and Air Integration / Experimentation / Modeling and Risk Reduction (FLAIR) office at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD and other locations. This project will provide the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Research (C5ISR) Center services to include programmatic/business management services, engineering support services, field engineering, laboratory, logistics, and acquisition / administrative support services to augment FLAIR core Government personnel and turn-key solutions to support the missions of FLAIR and its associated Managers and customers. This support will be conducted in close coordination with Government project leads within FLAIR.
**Job Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ Analyze business procedures and problems to refine data for database management.
+ Analyze, design and implement accurate, secure, efficient, logical and physical data bases and coordinate database development, applying knowledge of database design standards and database management system.
+ Identify and resolve production and/or applications development problems related to the use of the database management system software or utilities.
+ Review project request describing database user needs.
+ Study existing data handling systems to evaluate effectiveness and develop new systems to improve production or workflow as required.
+ Confer with personnel of organizational units involved to ascertain specific output requirements, such as types of breakouts, degree of data summarization, and format for management reports.
+ Specify in detail logical and/or mathematical operations to be performed by various equipment units and/or comprehensive computer programs and operations to be performed by personnel in system.
+ Estimate time and cost required to accomplish project to determine if project requires creating series of new programs or modifying existing programs that access data stored in databases.
+ Attend specification meeting with project team workers to determine scope and limitations of project.
+ Review workflow chart developed by programmer analyst to understand tasks computer will perform, such as updating records.
+ Review procedures in database management system manuals for making changes to database, such as defining, creating, revising, and controlling database.
+ Revise company definition of data as defined in data dictionary (information about data, including name, description, source of data item, and key words for categorizing and searching for data item descriptions).
+ Determine and enter changes to data dictionary descriptions, including type, structure, and intended use of data within system, or assign data entry work to programmer.
+ Develop data model describing data elements and how they are used, following procedures and using pen and template or computer software
+ Create description to enable programmer analysts to understand how programs should access data; Write description of how user accesses data, referred to as logical database; Write physical database description, such as location, space requirements, and access method, to protect company data resources against unauthorized access and accidental destruction, according to computer industry standards and knowledge of database management system.
+ Conduct special studies and investigations pertaining to development of new information systems to meet current and projected needs.
+ Plan and prepare technical reports, memoranda, and instructional manuals relative to the establishment and functioning of complete operational systems. May specialize in adding, deleting, and modifying data items in data dictionary.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Must have a Bachelor of Science degree.
+ Minimum of 7 years of working experience. Will accept 5 years of additional experience in lieu of degree.
+ Must have an Active SECRET US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a SECRET Clearance.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Experience supporting C5ISR DEVCOM programs.
