Primary Function
Ashland City is home to A. O. Smith’s largest water heating manufacturing facility in the United States and manufactures over two million residential water heaters every year. Tool & Die Journeyman (C Shift Rotating) is responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining dies and industrial equipment.
Responsibilities
Be proficient in repair, trouble shooting and maintaining single hit, draw, multiple stage progressive dies, sensors and controls, shaker pans and slug removal systems, presses and material feeding equipment. Repair and maintain industrial equipment used to manufacture water heaters and their components along with trouble shooting equipment issues. Operate shop equipment such as Mills, lathes, boring mills, Blanchard and surface grinders, drill presses and radial arm drills. Ability to develop or design specifications from general descriptions and draw sketch or print of part or die component to be fabricated. May install machined parts or replacement parts in dies, machines and equipment. Test operation of machined parts, test operation of dies, mechanisms or machines to ensure functionality and performance. Perform preventive maintenance on dies, shop and production equipment. Identify or analyze defective die or machine components and indicate the necessary corrective actions. Operate chain hoist, fork lifts and other shop lifting equipment safely. Welding and fabrication experience preferred Ability to install and trouble shoot die sensing components Ability to proficiently trouble shoot dies issues Ability to build, tryout and debug new dies Ability to maintain dies through a scheduled die PM system Knowledge of press stack up tolerances Must be able to masterfully read and interpret blue prints. Must be able to communicate with employees on all levels including team leaders and supervisory personnel. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule and weekends as required. Qualifications
High School Diploma + 10 years experience or Technical School (Tool & Die or Machinist fields) + 6 years experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Welding and CNC experience a plus. Must be proficient with precision measuring instruments. Must be computer literate with basic computing skills.Physical Requirements

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and with assistance Loud noises and limited exposure to dust and fumes. Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe shoes/boots, ear and eye protection.
