Journeyman Truck and Transport Mechanic / 4th Year Apprentice



 

Position Summary

Our Edmonton Fleet Maintenance division is currently seeking an experienced Journeyman Truck and Transport Mechanic or a 4th year Apprentice. As a successful candidate, your responsibilities will include repairing and maintaining our fleet of Oil Collection Trucks, Hydrovacs, Highway Trucks and off-road equipment, among other vehicles and equipment. This position requires a dependable, enthusiastic organized individual capable of consistently performing to meet established standards and deadlines.

Please note, the chosen individual must possess their own hand tools and storage toolbox. However, the successful candidate will be eligible for a $500 tool allowance after three months and then an annual tool allowance of $1000 after 3 years of service. 

As an Apprentice you will be working with experienced Journeyman Technicians with over 20 years of experience. You will receive training on a wide range of equipment and be in an environment that will help you grow and develop as a Mechanic. GFL will also prepare you for any upcoming school programs and give you the training and mentorship needed to succeed.

Key Accountabilities

Perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnostic work on a wide range of mobile and stationary equipment.

Complete repairs on all mechanical systems as required.  Including, but not limited to, engines, transmissions, driveline, brake systems, hydraulic systems, etc.

Participate in the GFL safety program and ensure compliance with all GFL and Fleet Maintenance safety standards, policies and procedures.

Ensure repaired equipment is properly tested for correct performance and operation.

Utilize excellent organizational skills in order to complete accurate, legible and descriptive documentation for all completed repairs.

Install or fabricate aftermarket equipment and components as assigned.

Communicate effectively with Shop Foreman, Lead Hand and Parts Coordinator.

Requirements

Journeyman Certification.  

Experience with the CVIP Motor Vehicle Inspection Program.

CVIP certification preferred but not required.

Insite / JPRO experience preferred.

Cummins, Detroit, & John Deere experience preferred.

Class 5 Drivers License with a fairly clean drivers abstract required, 1A or 3A Driver’s License preferred.

Strong Mechanical and troubleshooting abilities on a wide range of machinery and equipment.
