SUMMARY

Bering Straits Professional Services, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Computer Operator I/ Jr. Entry Level Customer Support Help Desk/Computer/Data Entry Operator for a government contract in Macon, GA.  The ideal candidate will be capable, under general supervision, and with reasonable training, operating data recording, entry, or processing systems or assisting IT systems users with such systems navigation, account, troubleshooting, and system usage assistance, following standard procedures with some independent judgment consistent with training and established procedures.

Computer Operator I Help Desk and Production Support- Communicating with customers via email and/or phone to provide system support and guidance. Maintaining records of daily communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken. Submitting problem inquiries to Programming Staff and implementing appropriate corrections. Loading machinery with required input/output material such as paper, cards, disks etc. Mailing and metering of sensitive data

Handle maintenance and operation of our computer systemsAbility to work as a team to accomplish tasks.Ability to work from written procedures while performing tasks.Ability to create and optimize written procedures.Continually demonstrating a proactive approach to problem solving. Set controls on computers and other devices, respond accordingly when errors occur and maintain records of job runsAnalyze common issues and take steps to reduce or eliminate them, and collaborate with other IT personnel and seek help from supervisors to develop relevant solutions Perform preventative maintenance on hardware and software, troubleshoot malfunctions and call for repairs as neededMaintain equipment inventories and order supplies and hardware accordinglyEnsure the security and privacy of the system for our clientMay be required to be on-site to support the print/quality control/mail serviceMay be required to be on-stie to support the Customer Support Help Desk.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

 

High School Graduate or EquivalentNo previous experience of service desk or customer service management required

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

 

Working knowledge of Windows-based computers. Working knowledge of Microsoft suite, especially MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS

This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions. This position does perform DOT “safety-sensitive” functions (as defined under 49 CFR Part 40) and is subject to all federal requirements related to Department of Transportation requirements for those performing, or on-call to perform, “safety-sensitive” functions. Employees must provide a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting.

No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
