Based out of Edmonton, you’ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams associated with our Western Canada offices to contribute to the environmental planning and permitting and efforts of government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. As a Junior Aquatic Field Biologist, you will have the opportunity to be mentored and provide support during aquatic surveys, and support other biophysical disciplines as needed. This position will start in the spring with an anticipated 80% of travel for fieldwork and 20% office work. A successful offer will be a 6- to 9-month contract or fulltime depending on workload and/or skillset. Contracts have the potential of extension or conversion to fulltime. Required safety training will be provided by Jacobs.

* Minimum degree or diploma in fisheries or aquatic-related environmental discipline (or near completion) with relevant experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience (1-3 years of directly relevant experience conducting and managing aquatic studies)
* Knowledge and understanding of fisheries and aquatic environmental assessment methods
* Physical ability to work safely and be comfortable in and around fast-flowing and deep water systems
* Experience conducting biological or environmental work in an outdoor setting
* Willingness and comfort working in the field in remote locations for up to 2 or 3 weeks at a time and overnight at hotels and project work camps
* Positive attitude and self-motivated to learn and develop as a valuable team member
* Demonstrated consideration for safety during your work
* Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* A driver’s license and ability to provide a clean, 3 year driving abstract
Ideally, you’ll also have:
* Interest and knowledge of other biophysical study areas, baseline studies, and monitoring programs for wetlands , soils, rare plants, weeds, and/or wildlife
* Basic knowledge with the Federal Fisheries Act, and other relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation in western Canada
* Hold or be working toward a Professional Designation under the BC College of Applied Biology and/or the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists
* Valid Electro-fishing certificate approved by Worksafe BC ([1] https://www.worksafebc.com/en/health-safety/education-training-certification/electrofishing-operator)
* Demonstrated quality data collection skills
* Experience traversing and/or working in remote areas in various terrain and weather conditions
* Experience driving 4x4 trucks on remote and gravel roads
