Your OpportunityThe Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst or Senior GIS Analyst (depending on experience) is responsible for providing GIS services to external and/or internal clients in a shared services environment. Work will focus primarily focus on supporting Power & Dams, Mining and Oil and Gas projects. The GIS Analyst determines client needs and proposes optimal GIS and geospatial technologies and solutions to meet business needs.
This is an exciting full-time position working within our Energy & Resources Integrated Design business operating unit within Stantec. Flexible (e.g., in-office, hybrid, virtual) work schedules are available. The position will be joining an existing dynamic 6-person GIS group to support exciting projects across Canada, United States and extending worldwide. The desired candidate should be well rounded across the entire GIS platform.
Your Key Responsibilities Applying GIS theories, principles and software to efficiently meet project demands. Responsible for the design and management of project GIS databases along with the compiling of geographic information to support specific GIS project tasks. Developing high quality cartographic work products both in the desktop and web environments. Conduct simple to complex spatial analyses using both vector and raster data types to provide insights to planning, engineering, environmental and geotechnical project tasks. Design and configuration of mobile data collection workflows using Esri specific mobile applications. Adhering to established cartographic standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes. Collaborating with existing GIS, CAD and non-geospatial staff members across the company. Your Capabilities and Credentials Well established understanding of GIS theory and principles (e.g., vector, raster, coordinate systems, projections, transformations, cartography, etc). Strong experience with the Esri ArcGIS Platform (i.e., Desktop, ArcPro, ArcGIS Online). Proficient with Esri ArcGIS Pro Proficient in both vector and raster data management and analysis techniques. Solid foundation in coordinate system projections and transformations. Strong cartographic skills for both desktop and web-based maps. Familiarity with ArcGIS Online and/or Portal to publish project sensitive data within custom web maps and applications for consumption by project teams, the client and/or public. Familiarity configuring Esri mobile data collection applications (e.g., Field Maps, Survey123) to meet a wide variety of project field data collection needs. Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to perform work accurately in a detail-oriented environment. Ability to meet project deadlines and an interest to understand how assigned tasks relate to overall project goals. Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships. Interest and ability to internally educate and market GIS and geospatial technologies. Education and Experience Bachelors or an advanced degree in GIS, geology, geomatics, geotechnical engineering, environmental science, or related field with demonstrated GIS training or coursework. Previous co-op/Internship of demonstrated professional work experience performing GIS tasks. An equivalent combination of recent education and job experience may be sufficient to successfully perform the essential job duties. Demonstrated skills in python scripting (or other languages) will be considered valuable. Prior experience within a consulting environment will be considered valuable.
