Job Description

We are seeking an Junior Analyst to work within our Food Testing microbiology department in Belfast. 

This is a full time role working 36.25 hours per week - Sunday to Thursday 09:30 till 17:30. The training shift for the first 6 weeks will be MOnday to Friday 09:30 - 17:30. 

Flexibility in working hours is required and overtime will be required to be worked at short notice during peak business demands during the week and at the weekend.

Preparation of media (agars etc.) to be used in microbiological analysis. Sample preparation in line with company protocols. Microbiological analysis of water/food/feed/swabs samples in line with company protocols.Training and operation of relevant equipment.General housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross contamination.Accurate Data entry into laboratory database.Accurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality system.Effective communication with all employees.Report any anomalous results or situations to Line Manager.Adhere to Health and Safety procedures are adhered to within the laboratory.Collection of laboratory samples from customer sites (food only, when required).Any other related activities as required by post.Additional responsibilities as and when required. 

QualificationsComputer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel).Comfortable working in a busy environment.Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately.Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.Strong communication skills.It is desirable to have a degree in a related scientific field.It is desirable to have experience of culture of microorganisms and knowledge of laboratory accreditation systems (ideally ISO 17025).
