Applied Research Associates (ARA) is looking for a Junior Space Domain Awareness Engineer (SDA) with interests in orbital analysis, space defense, and remote sensing to join our Southwest Division’s Advanced Systems Group in Albuquerque, NM. Our group is developing revolutionary technologies to support government and commercial needs for improved awareness of all things in Earth orbit.
The ideal candidate will have a strong physics background with proficiency in programming skills to support projects solving complex problems related to the tracking and characterization of space objects using remote sensors. Our projects cover a broad range of activities including experiments involving nighttime telescope operations, software development for data processing, and modeling and simulation analysis.
Must Haves:
Proficiency in Python Solid math/physics backgroundSDA Engineer Requirements:
US citizen with an active DoD Security Clearance or ability to obtain one BS in Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, Computer Science or related field Proficiency in Python programming language Ability to apply knowledge of physics to understand orbital mechanics as it pertains to objects in Earth orbit Ability to apply knowledge of physics to understand sensing in the electro-optical and infrared wavelengths Ability to understand and solve complex problems Team player with excellent presentation and written/oral communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Interest in learning new tools and understanding of all fields of engineeringSDA Engineer Preferences:
Active DoD SECRET or higher security clearance Experience in space observing including operations of telescopes and camera systems Experience or interests in Space Domain Awareness topics including satellite tracking, catalog maintenance, collision avoidance, orbital analysis, and astrodynamics
