Junior Test Engineer

Position Summary
Thales is looking for a Junior Test Engineer with a mechanical background who is self-motivated, a critical thinker and with a technical background, to join the Thales Radar Test Engineering Team in Overland Park, Kansas. This team is responsible for development and test of a next generation state of the art radar systems for the FAA, as well as providing deployment site support. This individual will participate in Design team as well as the Test Engineering team. The Test Engineering team guides all technical aspects of system test through the formal test process. With inputs from the system architects, the Test Engineering team defines the test approaches and test success criteria for each system requirement which result in integration and test procedures to validate the system to customer requirements.
In this position, you will apply knowledge of the system’s hardware, software, and networks to support and conduct test design reviews and perform system integration on multiple radar subsystems and external interfaces. The Test Engineering team also conducts formal development test campaigns for the validation of the radar system.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Responsible for working on all phases of the test program, including planning, test approach and test success criteria development, test procedure development, test dry-runs, test conduct and test report development. Responsible for system integration, debug (both hardware and software) and root cause analysis throughout the design, test and deployment phases.Responsible for contributing to analysis on data collected at various stages of test. Participation in developing Test Design Review Material in accordance with requirement test approaches.May be required to participate in field test activities, primarily site survey’s and system installations. Supports configuration management activities for hardware design qualification testing.Participate in formal in-plant and on-site development tests in the presence of the FAA and other witness. Participate in the design, develop and management of component industrial design to meet FAA requirements.Participate in building product definition files and management of product configuration. Participate in building quick mechanical prototyping and product prototypes assemblies request for demonstration or concept tests.Participate in product specific mechanical installation on each specific configuration build-ups within a collaborative environment. Participate in system integration, debug hardware and root cause analysis throughout the design, test and deployment phases. Participates in peer reviews of system requirements. Participates in integration of software and hardware. Assist with product transfer to production.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or appropriate engineering field of study.Experience or training with a CAD tool and schematic tools.Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.Must be a US Person as defined in applicable law.Must be a U.S. Person as defined in applicable law, or otherwise authorized or eligible for authorization, to access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).Must be a U.S. Person able to obtain post-hire Moderate Risk Public Trust clearance from the U.S. State Department.Special Position Requirements
Travel: Domestic and international travel me be required. (Up to 50% annually).A high level of analytical and / or problem solving skills.Experience or training with CAD tool (AutoCAD. Experience or training with schematic tool (OrCAD).Understanding of Environmental design engineering (i.e. Thermal study, vibration study, etc.). Understanding of specification, design, development and/or testing of hardware products.
