Kennamer Extensivist Position 2025-2026

The Division of General Internal Medicine & Health Services Research in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a Kennamer Extensivist Fellowship position. The fellowship is designed to train outstanding clinicians with expertise in caring for a highly complex and vulnerable patient population across the care spectrum.

UCLA Health is seeking one motivated physician for a fellowship in general primary care. This one-year fellowship beginning July 1, 2025 is a junior academic appointment as a HS Clinical Instructor in general primary care. The fellow will have longitudinal clinical rotations in a variety of UCLA and non-UCLA clinical sites, with flexibility in tailoring the experiences to the learning environment and career goals of the fellow.

The fellowship aims to train outstanding, innovative, fellow physicians, who deliver high quality, interdisciplinary and humanistic care to a highly complex and vulnerable patient population using a unique model of care that enhances internal medicine training. They will engage in a project exploring innovative care delivery techniques to improve the health of complex patients. Fellows will engage in experiences that expand their breadth and depth of knowledge to prepare them for advanced practice.

Fellowship components will include:

Care for medically and psychosocially complex patients Effectively leading an interdisciplinary team in the ambulatory setting Developing comfort with using the patient’s home as an effective care setting Incorporating telehealth, including remote monitoring to care for patients in the home setting Engaging in experiences in palliative care, behavioral health, and East-West medicine Training surrounding substance use disorders and treatment Treating mental health disorders in patients with complex medical conditions Opportunities to teach residents and medical students Opportunity to receive training in LEAN methodology Quality Improvement Methods Coursework and workshops spanning a variety of topics including complex care medicine, transitions of care, social determinants of health, epidemiology and statistics, palliative care medicine, advance care planning, and behavioral health

Successful applicants are U.S.-trained M.D.'s or D.O.'s and are expected to have completed an Internal Medicine residency. Candidate must have excellent inpatient and outpatient skills.

The posted UC salary scales [https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/index.html] set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The salary for this position is $115,000. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan [https://ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-670.pdf], which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
