Description

Key Responsibilities: 

Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle;

Consistently demonstrate situational awareness, an understanding of the technology in his/her care, and a willingness to constantly adjust to changes in the environment;

Be the deputy for technology by communicating courteously always with management, engineers, and the public;

Operate/Drive in single and/or dual driving, (assignment may be alone or with a co-driver) up to five days a week; able to sit still for long periods of time;

Capable of responding quickly to changing and potentially high-pressure environments;

Work mostly individually but also in small groups of 2-10 people;

Operate a vehicle 6-8 hours a day, up to 5 days a week;

Follow established diagnostic guides to troubleshoot driver support modules; not limited to, but including Pixel phones, gLinux laptops, and monitoring cameras

Provide rides in the autonomous vehicle to the general public.

Monitor multiple software systems with constant focus;

Provide concise, clear, and accurate verbal and written feedback regarding the vehicle’s operations;

Responsible for managing vehicle key security process

Operate the vehicle on paved rough surfaces in a closed course facility;

Complete daily reports and document procedures and tests.

Interact with the members of the public in a polite and professional manner, and assist in educating them on self-driving technology when necessary

Operate autonomous vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of environmental conditions.

Operate onboard data recording computers;

Comfortable riding as a passenger in an autonomous vehicle, where the driver may have little control over the vehicle’s operations.

Safely operates a non-autonomous vehicle while monitoring the location of a driverless vehicle(s).

Responsible for the safe recovery of the autonomous vehicle which includes but is not limited to parking safely behind the driverless vehicle, setting up protection, disengaging the self-driving car and driving the car to a safe location.

Apply safety procedures to any situation involving rescue of the self-driving car.

Responsible for managing vehicle key security process

Oversee and ensure the security and importing of disks including accounting of at the beginning and end of shift, and ensuring there is the proper amount of disks needed throughout the day

Ensure only badged staff access the vehicle area and break room(s) at remote sites

Will assist as a POC for client Security and Facilities staff for issues and repairs at remote site(s)

Exercise excellent customer service while assisting passengers of the driverless vehicle to disembark, board the rescue vehicle and safely drive passengers to their destination.

Assist software progress by testing new features;

Document recurring issues of new software and any potential bugs;

Follow weekly release emails and bug reports to stay up to date;

Communicate with Release Managers to understand new fixes and features;

Inform Ops about changes when there is a new software release;

Work closely with AVOS to keep demo documentation accurate and up to date (i.e. create/maintain demo routes and best practices, daily and weekly emails)

Ensure that Ops Friends and Family Ride Along days operate smoothly

Operate self-driving vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of environmental conditions.

Provide feedback about Brand Ambassadors at static demos

Attend demo syncs with Demo POCs weekly to go over upcoming demos and weekly schedules as needed

Represent Waymo by showcasing self-driving technology to Waymo’s guests in a friendly, concise manner while

Capable of responding quickly to changing and potentially high-pressure environments.

Conduct classroom sessions and training presentations weekly for new operators to the Testing Operations team.

Practice a firm yet understanding teaching style to accommodate different learning styles

Onboard new-hires with a positive attitude and assist in individual training for 3+ weeks at a time

Devote extra time post-shift to run study groups for trainees, as needed.

Set the tone and example for less experienced Operations Drivers;

Participate in weekly meetings with managers and other peers for training improvement discussions; and daily meetings with peers on shift to discuss trainees’ feedback

Participate in daily meetings with peers on shift to discuss trainees’ performance evaluation.

Must be able to work assigned shift

All other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of experience driving on public roads. Additional experience is preferred;

High School Diploma or GED required. Four-year college degree (preferred) in a related field like industrial or applied sciences;

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

Ability to parallel park with minimal assistance.

Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (i.e. Gmail, Hangouts, and Driver, including Sheets and Docs);

Proficiency with using a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred by not required); and

Must be able to type at least 40 adjusted wpm.

Must have good attention to detail and be able to quickly and concisely describe their thoughts;

Capable of responding quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios;

Adapt quickly to new and developing technology;

Cross-functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation;

Must be able to multitask multiple technologies, including communications devices and vehicle status systems;

Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, overnights and/or weekends, as well as travel for up to one month; occasionally may be required to work overtime and be recalled for peak operational demand.

Must be able to perform your shift from a compact crossover vehicle; periodically exposed to the elements and outdoors

Travel up to 20% of the time

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and

Must be self-motivated and demonstrate good judgment, in fast-paced, high stress environments.

Physical Requirements:

Routine and repetitive standing, walking, and long periods of sitting.

Use of extremities to include hands/fingers/grip and; handle or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders.

May be routinely required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must be able to routinely and repetitively lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

Must use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Most work is accomplished outdoors or  in a vehicle.

Work may require exposure to inclement weather and or extreme environments

May need to operate alternative modes of transportation such as a bicycle or scooter

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must be 21 years old;

Does not have more than 1 point on the driving record (California), or one non-major moving violation in the preceding three years;

Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (i.e. Gmail, Hangouts, and Driver, including Sheets and Docs

Has not had any driver’s license suspension or revocation based on driving or operating any

vehicle under the influence of alcohol or any drug in the past 10 years;

Never been the at-fault driver of a motor vehicle involved in an accident that resulted in

injury or death of any person.

Must have and maintain a driving record that meets state AVT (Autonomous Vehicle Tester) and/or other applicable regulations and laws; and

Meets driver requirements, including driving record and criminal history under applicable regulations and laws in the state(s) in which the autonomous vehicle monitor will be working;

All Transdev employees must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Safety Sensitive Positions will also be subject to a physical screening

Employees must maintain an acceptable Driving Record suitable to being approved to drive as part of their regular duties. Records are monitored on an ongoing or regular basis pursuant to local state law.

Ability to qualify for an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license in states and positions where it’s required
