Purpose and Scope:
The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, maintaining equipment and supplies, and supporting research activities. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Maintenance and Compliance:
Clean and maintain the lab environment, including common areas, equipment, and glassware. Adhere to a prescribed schedule for cleaning tissue culture rooms, including hoods, incubators, and water baths. Handle biohazard and chemical waste according to OSHA standards. Monitor and maintain compliance with EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) requirements, serving as the point of contact with the EHS team. Support EHS activities, including green lab certification and freezer challenges. Inventory and Supply Management: Monitor inventory of lab reagents and supplies; purchase as appropriate. Manage stockroom operations, including the maintenance of glassware and autoclaving. Prepare, restock, and maintain a variety of lab supplies, including pipette tips, media/buffers, and stock solutions. Track, receive and check-in incoming lab material shipments; communicate with and distribute materials to requesters or store in inventory. Equipment and Vendor Management: Support equipment maintenance, including calibration and repairs, in collaboration with the facility and vendors. Submit equipment requests and track maintenance. Maintain relationships with vendors and coordinate third-party lab service vendors as needed. Financial Support: Manage capital expenditure (CapEx) and asset tracking, including gathering group needs, obtaining quotes, and coordinating purchases. Monitor and reconcile invoices; ensure timely payment and address discrepancies with accounts payable and procure-to-pay teams. Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with the research team to ensure seamless day-to-day laboratory operations, including lab coat management and general lab organization. Assist in the development and writing of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as requested. Perform other duties as assigned or special projects as needed. Support administrative tasks, including scheduling meetings and managing conference room logistics as needed. Record Keeping and Reporting: Responsible for proper record-keeping of laboratory conditions and compliance documentation. Manage the upkeep of freezers and nitrogen tanks, ensuring proper chemical storage and disposal.
