JOB SUMMARY

The Lab Specialist, Shipping will assist the laboratory researchers with tasks involving moving resources within PTC campuses. The incumbent will execute duties with strict attention to safety and quality. Rigorous adherence to federal, state, and local regulations is mandatory. Collaborative work with research staff is a necessity to achieve departmental and company goals. Tasks will require working in laboratory areas using established procedures and SOPs.

The Lab Specialist, Shipping performs data entry into the laboratory inventory systems according to instruction received from, and procedures established by, the manager, and/or other members of PTC’s research team.  Collaborating closely with members of the Pharmacology, Chemistry and Compound Management Groups, the incumbent may also assist with, and support, other routine daily activities.

The Lab Specialist, Shipping position ensures adherence to relevant regulatory requirements in local countries for privacy and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate compound requests and shipment with the requesting scientist Optimize scheduling of deliveries to ensure cost savingsAssist requesting scientist in completing the necessary paperwork for domestic and international shipmentsPrepare compounds for shipment to scientists/teams at other PTC New Jersey campuses, domestic collaborators, and international collaborators in an organized mannerFor domestic and international requests, coordinate with Facilities and LogisticsUpon receipt of compounds at the PTC New Jersey campuses, ensure compounds are delivered to the appropriate scientist/teamMaintain the shipping request database for PTC’s New Jersey campuses and ensure high fidelity trackingTransport compounds between the NJ sites for proper delivery to the research teamsServe as a back up to the Senior Lab Specialist to fulfill compound requestsServe as a back up to the Senior Lab Specialist to check in, label, and distribute incoming compounds from CROsLabel materials appropriately according to the Standard of industry practices.Utilize inventory management systems such as Dotmatics, Chemdraw, ServiceNow and Cheminventory to manage chemicals, biological materials, caged animals (mice) and run reports.Use programs Assist compound manager, HTS manager, and Lab managers as needed with lab servicesReview documentation upon receipt, unbox the materials and perform inspection. Report any compromise to the packaging integrity or item to management and Shipping & Receiving.Complies with all safety requirements.Contributes to general lab operations such as:Equipment maintenance.Maintenance of clean and uncluttered work areas.Performs other tasks and assignments as needed and specified by management.  

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED

* Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience.

Minimum of a high school degree and a minimum of 6 years of shipping experience OR equivalent experience and/or education 

* Special knowledge or skills needed and/or licenses or certificates required.

Familiarity with inventory software, including Dotmatics, ChemDraw, ServiceNow and ChemInventoryFamiliarity with shipping and receiving best practicesMust hold valid NJ driver’s license with a clean recordProficiency with Microsoft Office.Excellent verbal and written communication and skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as required, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment consisting of internal and external team members.Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects. 

*Special knowledge or skills and/or licenses or certificates preferred.

Associate’s degree preferredLaboratory experience preferredKnowledge of DOT regulations preferred

* Travel requirements

70% Local travel required between Bridgewater, NJ, Hopewell, NJ, and Warren, NJ exclusively with PTC’s vehicle.

*Physical requirements

Office/Lab based position but with the ability to manipulate equipment up to 40 pounds.
