The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Lab Specialist in the Schiro Lab.
The Schiro Lab seeks to Improve our understanding of clouds, convection, and precipitation in a changing climate. We use field campaign observations, satellite data, and cloud resolving models to study the physical processes controlling deep convection and heavy precipitation. We also use general circulation models of varying complexity to study the interactions between clouds/convection/precipitation and the large-scale atmospheric circulation across scales in the tropics, as well as Earth System Models at global and regional scales to improve our understanding of hydroclimatological changes in a warming world. The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following job duties:
Independently analyze large climate datasets, which may include analysis of climate model output as well as large observational datasets, including clouds, radiation, and precipitation from satellite-based remote sensing instrumentation.Interpret the results and communicate findings in peer-reviewed literature and conference presentations. In addition to these duties, other duties may be assigned.Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: At least three years of experience, which may include experience gained while a student.
Preferred education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, or related field.
Preferred knowledge/skills/abilities: Completed coursework in atmospheric sciences.
