The role youll contribute:

Supervises day-to-day operations and evaluates, trains, and schedules phlebotomist and, or lab assistant schedules. Responsible for managing assigned selected aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, which may include workflow, quality control process, performance improvement activities, training of new employees, advanced problem solving for customers and coworkers, department equipment or computer maintenance and upgrades.

Evaluates and monitors program needs, identifies unmet needs, and evaluates program services and staff

Performs assigns and oversees pre-analytical laboratory activities, which may include general equipment maintenance, function checks and documentation; inventory control and supply stocking; blood specimen collection; biological specimen processing; cleaning and disinfection of selected or assigned laboratory equipment and spaces; and other pre-analytical activities. Provides and acts on technical and support information related to the elements of laboratory testing for all age groups, from neonates through geriatric patients.

Supports staff using effective scheduling, workload assignments, and troubleshooting problems; motivates high performance and productivity from employees.

Actively participates in, and has knowledge of, laboratory and hospital Performance Improvement activities, including resolution of customer services issues, evaluation of new equipment and/or procedures or methods, preparation and review of staff quality and efficiency reports; and monitoring staff performance to enforce technical and service standards.

Assists department leadership with department staffing, including interviewing replacement staff members as appropriate, ensuring appropriate orientation of new employees, ongoing training, coaching, mentoring and documented competency assessment; acts as a proficient resource for all departmental tasks and training. Assists with the coordination/facilitation of the clinical experience of students in a AdventHealth or affiliated education program.

Participates as a member of various committees or teams for AdventHealth Laboratory as assigned. Assists Laboratory management with special projects as assigned.

Continually oversees and ensures department workspaces are maintained in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner; properly stores documentation and specimens as appropriate. Performs, assigns and oversees post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing.

Follows and ensures adherence of staff, to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies; protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all times.

Follows and enforces appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, hand washing, and hazardous chemical handling. Enforces and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences youll need to succeed:

High School Grad or Equiv Required

Associate Preferred

Two or more years of Work Experience Required

Ability to ensure departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements

Exhibits technical skills and aptitudes related to the specific laboratory specimen collections as performed in department or work area assigned.

Displays the ability to comprehend, measure, reason, match, problem solve, and exercise judgment under minimal supervision.

Exhibits ability to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations and handle multiple priorities and projects.

Able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form in English with patients, staff, and customers of varied backgrounds in a respectful, effective, and professional manner.

Exercises mature, independent judgment and the ability to handle confidential information within Hospital guidelines and applicable regulations.

Builds and maintains effective, productive teams and appropriate peer relationships to facilitate organizational objectives.

Ability to utilize standard computer related applications, and ability to learn and apply new applications and programs.

Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English

Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office

Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) Required And

Driver's License (DL) Required And

Medical Lab Associate (MLA-ASCP) Preferred Or

American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Preferred Or

Clinical Laboratory Supervisor (SU) Preferred Or

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLSASCP) Preferred Or

Medical Technologist (MTAAB) Preferred Or

Medical Technologist (MTAMT) Preferred Or

Medical Technologist (MTASCP) Preferred
