Job summary:

Performs daily activities in the quality assurance department to ensure optimum efficiency and quality of plant operations. Responsible for the accurate analysis of products and ingredients during all phases of production to ensure adherence to specifications for quality and health. At the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, responds to quality problems and pursues and implements remedies to such problems.

Days off:  

This is a floating position with10 hours shifts.  Schedule is variable with respect to task and times.

Job duties:

If able to learn and perform all associated tasks with regards to the various shifts and job assignments within in the lab.

Strong knowledge of testing programs, quality programs, and computer systems with ability to conduct project related tasks as assigned.

Performs various laboratory testing of in process and finished product, which may include, but are not limited to moisture, salt, pH, butterfat.

Tests samples on IR equipment as required for analytical compliance to product specification.

Performs microbiological testing on in process samples and finished products as well as environmental samples and water.

Responsible for data entry, review and verification of microbiological and analytical results.

Informs production immediately of off-specification product.

Verifies that all products meet specifications and quality standards.

Reviews equipment for compliance with operating standards and informs management of variances noted.

Responds to quality problems and pursues and implements remedies to such problems under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor.

Accurately and efficiently operates lab computer systems.

Calibrates lab equipment on a daily basis and participates in lab validation program.

Has ability to handle multiple demands and shifting priorities.

Has ability to effectively train coworkers to conduct job specific tasks and assignment.

Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills

Works effectively in a team environment as well as independently.

Adheres to established record keeping procedures and methods.

Complies with all quality system and regulatory requirements.

Demonstrates integrity in all business activities with internal and external customers.

Demonstrates a consistent level of attention to detail

Adheres to laboratory safety policies.

Reliable and consistent attendance and available to work any shift, overtime or holidays as required; may be required to cover the absence of key personnel.

Performs other duties as required.

Physical Demands:

Frequently required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. occasionally required to sit for a period of time. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands:  

This position frequently requires mental demands, including the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex reports. The ability to handle multiple tasks and multiple deadlines and work effectively under pressure is critical to this position.

Specific job selection criteria:

Associates Degree in Chemistry, MicroBiology, Computer Science, Dairy Science, or minimum three (3) years experience in a laboratory environment.Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.Effective use of computer systems (i.e. SAP, MS Excel, Word,).

Environmental Demands:

While performing job duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fluctuating temperature and noise levels.

Pay Range: $29.63-$34.91
