Lab Technician - 1st Shift M-F
Job Title: Lab Technician

Company Overview: Join a global leader in magnet wire manufacturing. Our client specializes in applying electrically insulating varnish or enamel to aluminum or copper wire used in electrical machinery. These wires are produced in large plants that draw and insulate them before selling to electrical equipment manufacturers. As a part of the magnet wire testing laboratory, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring product quality and performance.

Job Responsibilities:

Conduct quality tests on magnet wire to meet specifications, support R&D, and improve product performance.Perform metallurgical testing and provide support for magnet wire products.Execute tests on QA and experimental runs, action requests, and sample orders.Assist in preparing magnet wire enamels, thinners, and lubricants.Inspect and analyze raw materials and chemical products to ensure they meet specifications.Carry out detailed tests requiring high attention to detail.Follow detailed instructions for testing, data entry, and reporting results through charts and reports.Use chemical testing equipment and measuring instruments.Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and management to troubleshoot and resolve issues.Utilize computer programs, quality systems, and tools, actively participating in the quality management system.Adhere to all procedures, methods, and guidelines to achieve quality, safety, and production goals.Maintain accurate records and data for company reports.Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers to share information and maintain positive working relationships.

Metallurgical/Materials Testing:

Microscopy:Optical Microscopes: Examine the wire's microstructure.Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM): Conduct detailed surface analysis and study the wire's composition.Mechanical Testing:Tensile Testers: Measure the wire's strength and elongation.Hardness Testers: Determine the wire material's hardness.Electrical Testing:Resistance Meters: Measure the wire's electrical resistance.Dielectric Breakdown Testers: Test the wire's insulation properties.Thermal Analysis:Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC): Study the thermal properties of the wire insulation.Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA): Measure weight changes in the wire as it is heated.Chemical Analysis:Spectrometers: Analyze the wire's elemental composition.X-ray Fluorescence (XRF): Detect and measure different elements in the wire.Surface Analysis:Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM): Provide high-resolution imaging of the wire surface.Profilometers: Measure the surface roughness and texture.

These tests ensure the magnet wire meets the stringent requirements for use in electric vehicles, including high electrical conductivity, thermal stability, and mechanical strength.

QualificationsHigh School Diploma required; Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in life science/technical field preferred3+ years lab experience testing metals, specifically conductors such as copper or aluminum1+ year metallurgical testing experienceMetal manufacturing experience requiredMagnet wire test experience strongly preferred



Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
