*To be considered for this position you must complete the state application and attach all required documents through the Montana State Careers site at **www.statecareers.mt.gov**.*** * * *The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division, Laboratory Services.* This position provides laboratory support to both the Clinical and Environmental Public Health Laboratories. Responsibilities include but not limited to: A. Pre-Analytical Accessioning Procedures * Participates in laboratory accessioning processes. * Receives and opens shipments of clinical specimens sent to the laboratory for testing. * Checks daily samples received against the manifests to ensure all samples are accounted for. * Performs quality control processes, such as ensuring specimen integrity is not compromised during transport, matching required data on specimen collection tubes to the submitted paperwork, and identifying and troubleshooting discrepancies. * Ensures compromised specimens and/or discrepant data are reviewed by a laboratory supervisor or a member of the Laboratory System Improvement (LSI) team. * Creates policies and procedures for sample processing, including handling compromised specimens. * Sorts clinical specimens according to the laboratory section where they will be tested and properly labels specimen tubes and paperwork with appropriate LIS barcode. * Cleans and disinfects the accessioning area, including countertops, and gathers and transports biohazardous waste to the autoclave room. * Follows safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. B. Data Entry and IT Support * Releases online orders that have been electronically entered into the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). * Verifies that all patient data was scanned properly into the software, corrects any identified errors, and releases patient information along with test requests into the LIS. * Ensures all test orders have been processed and researches any missing samples or orders. * Responsible for sample storage and the proper disposal of samples in compliance with laboratory procedures. * Serves as a resource for testing sections by assisting with send-outs and following correct packaging and shipping procedures for sending samples to external reference laboratories. * Receives water samples, logs them, and delivers them to the environmental laboratory. * Works with the laboratory supervisor or LSI team member to resolve any outstanding data discrepancies. * Assists laboratory data specialists with current IT projects to help ensure deadlines are met. * Aids the laboratory data specialist and LSI team with necessary support functions. * Fields questions from providers regarding sample testing status, allowable collection methods, and supply orders. * * *Why Join DPHHS* * * Our mission at DPHHS is serving Montanans in their communities to improve health, safety, well-being, and empower independence.
