ITW offers its employees a path for **advancement,** a **competitive salary** , and a **comprehensive benefits** package designed to help employees care for themselves, their families, and their futures. **Position Summary:** Reporting to the Engineering Lab Supervisor within ITW’s Residential & Renovation Division, the Lab Technician will support testing of mechanical and fastening solutions for structural applications. This role is located onsite at the organization testing facility in Lake Forest, IL. The role focuses on conducting product testing to ensure products meet customers and industry requirements. Candidate should be responsible for using good judgment, evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of techniques, procedures and criteria. **Primary Responsibilities:** + Understand and perform testing in accordance with applicable standards (UL, FM, Building Code, ICC-ES, etc.) + Conduct product testing in wood, concrete, drywall, and metal + Work with team leaders to collect data, perform analysis, and communicate results to teams. + Prepare detailed, accurate and well-presented test reports summarizing results and conclusions + Develop and write Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documents detailing test methods or equipment usage + Perform commissioning and start up procedure for custom equipment + Operate laboratory and shop equipment including measuring tape, calipers table saw, drills, nail guns, hammer, custom gauges, tensile testers, customer engineering fixtures, and corrosion chambers + Responsible for inventory and maintenance of all test equipment, test fixtures, tools, and laboratory supplies to be used for testing. + Maintain laboratory files including testing procedures, test results, concrete inventory, equipment records and calibrations, and monthly equipment verification checks. + Promptly report and document any equipment malfunctions or repairs needed + Maintain a safe, clean, and professional laboratory environment, ensuring all testing and storage areas are well-organized **Competencies:** + Communication: The position requires accurate communication with others within the business. Occasional flexibility to shift start or end times based on workloads. + Coaching/Training: Providing timely coaching, guidance, and feedback to help others excel on the job. **Qualifications:** + High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical, vocational training, or Bachelor Degree of Engineering Technology is a plus. + 3-5 years of experience in product testing using advanced testing equipment, such as MTS, Instron, or equivalent systems. + 3-5 years of experience in writing test reports, SOP for equipment and test methods + Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, and PowerPoint + Ability or experience using Microsoft SharePoint for test documentation management and organization. + Capable of performing commissioning of custom equipment + Ability to set up, calibrate, and maintain testing equipment to ensure accurate results. + Familiarity with testing and evaluation procedures for mechanical fasteners (or similar products) in compliance with industry standards. + Proven experience in a laboratory or construction testing environment + Understanding of a variety of component test standards + Ability to operate power tools and heavy machinery safely and effectively. + Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain). + Strong organizational and communication skills. + Demonstrated collaborative skills with internal / external stakeholders. + Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean working environment. **Work Environment:** The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this position, within typical office working conditions. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, climate variances and moving mechanical equipment typically found in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment (office) is usually low, but much higher when exposed to the manufacturing areas. Certain personal protective equipment is required when in the manufacturing areas.
