Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description

The Materials Evaluation Lab Technician I supports laboratories and technical teams with sample preparation, test preparation and execution, data analysis, and project support. The Materials Evaluation Lab characterizes the microstructure and physical properties of products using various methods such as optical and scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), X-ray diffraction, hardness, tensile/yield strength testing, and Keyence image analysis. Technicians in the MEL Lab prepare samples, operate test equipment, perform routine equipment maintenance, and interface with the laboratory information management system software. Technicians work with power tools and polishing equipment, as well as acids and solvents in an ISO14001/ISO9001 certified environment.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare samples by dissecting sputtering targets from manufacturing or clients, sawing, cutting, and polishing to prep for testing.Perform laboratory testing, including microscope analysis, chemical testing, and physical testing (hardness, tensile, strength).Conduct X-ray diffractions.Set up equipment, assemblies, and experiments.Collect data per work instructions or experimental plans.Prepare reports with data and analysis.Support senior level lab technicians and engineers with project execution.Maintain a safe and clean work environment.Essential SkillsExperience in laboratory and manufacturing industry.Knowledge of chemistry, power tools, and metallurgy.Ability to perform chemical testing.Strong tenure in previous roles, ideally in manufacturing or lab environments.Additional Skills & QualificationsAssociate's degree in a scientific field OR Bachelor's degree in a scientific field (chemistry, materials science, or similar).Comfortable using power tools.Work Environment

The work environment consists of a small group of 8-9 people, fostering a low-key and independent atmosphere. The ideal candidate should be curious, seek to understand how things work, and ask great questions. This is a 2nd shift position with hours from 2pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
