Summary
Processes and prepares specimens/slides for transport and/or analysis. Performs technical duties relative to basic quality control and waives testing under direct supervision.

Job DutiesOrders, receives, and triages incoming specimens/slides and evaluates specimen integrity. Verifies that specimens/slides are labeled according to laboratory policy and all paperwork is correct. Performs laboratory information system functions associated with these processes. Loads reagents and specimens on the analyzers and informs technologist of specimen onboarding. Performs waived laboratory testing. Confirms, verifies, and reports the results of this testing under direct supervision. Assists the technologist with any necessary functions to maintain specimen throughput. Performs basic quality control functions and notifies the technologist with any discrepancies. Prepares specimens/slides and completes laboratory information system functions and documentation for send out to reference laboratory. Assists the Pathologist with scheduled procedures. Assists with unpacking supplies upon receipt and placing them in the appropriate storage areas/temperatures.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma/GED Ability to read, understand, and speak basic English. Demonstrated basic computer skills, including the use of email. Ability to perform basic math skills. Exercises sound judgment in decision making.
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
