Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Labor & Delivery

Shift: Night Shift
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Education: Associate degree in Surgical Technology OR current certification as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA.
Experience: No experience required with associate degree in Surgical Technology; without Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology, two (2) years of surgical technologist experience required and certification.
Certification/Licensure: Certification preferred with Associate Degree.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Scrubbing for Surgical Cases:
Following established sterile procedures.Changing into appropriate sterile attire.Preparing for Operative Procedures:
Setting up instrument tables with required drapes, instruments, and sutures as per surgeon preferences.Maintaining a sterile field throughout the procedure.Assisting the Surgical Team:
Passing instruments, sponges, sutures, and other sterile supplies.Holding retractors and anticipating/responding to surgeon needs during surgery.Assisting with Circulating Duties:
Opening supplies, assisting with patient positioning, obtaining equipment, bagging sponges, and preparing the operative site.Handling Surgical Specimens:
Passing specimens to the circulating nurse with proper identification.Counting Instruments and Supplies:
Performing initial, final, and end-of-shift counts of sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery.Post-Operative Care:
Assisting with dressing the operative site following the procedure.Operating and Caring for Equipment:
Operating surgical equipment and instruments according to department policy and manufacturer recommendations.Staying updated on developments in surgical equipment and techniques through in-service programs.Quality Improvement:
Participating in quality improvement processes and contributing to problem-solving and process improvement initiatives.Safety and Confidentiality:
Ensuring personal safety and that of coworkers by following safety protocols.Maintaining confidentiality regarding patient, physician, and hospital information.In summary, this role involves technical proficiency in surgical procedures, adherence to strict sterile techniques, teamwork with surgical and nursing staff, continuous learning, commitment to quality improvement, and a strong focus on patient safety and confidentiality.
