Job Overview:

The Labor and Delivery Technician is responsible for assisting the Perioperative team in maintaining maximum work levels. Upholds policies and procedures in order to maintain a high level of service and professionalism to ensure CQI.

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or equiv.Graduate of a surgical tech programSurgical Tech certificationBLS through the American Heart Association

Essential Functions:

Assists RNs with appropriate nursing care for the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and surgical patientAccurately obtains vital signs, weights, and I & Os, and documents on appropriate toolsAnswers call bells promptly and courteouslyAssists in appropriate positions for surgical proceduresAssists with admission, discharge and transfer processDemonstrates and maintains aseptic technique when gowning, gloving, scrubbing, during surgical procedure and setting up delivery table,Demonstrates competency in pain management by reporting patients' pain intensity to staff nurseDemonstrates competency in restraint management and applicationFollows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environmentIdentifies criteria for selecting method of disinfection and / or sterilization by following manufacturer s recommendationsInspects instrument wrappers for integrity and expirationKeeps the patient care area neat and cleanPrepares soiled instruments for Central Supply processing appropriately and in a timely mannerProperly collects, processes specimen logbook / labeling and transports specimens to the lab or morgueProperly puts away sterile instruments upon delivery from Central Supply ProcessingResponds appropriately to emergency situationsSafely transfers patients as needed from bed to wheelchair to stretcher, etc and maintains proper body mechanicsStocks triage and labor rooms, operating rooms, fetal monitoring carts, warmers and shelves in sub sterile room as neededProvides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service,Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records,Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors,Listens and communicates effectivelySupports teamwork by cooperative problem solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc,Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functionsOrganizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriateMakes decisions that are timely and consistent with department, objectives, policies and procedures,Demonstrates sound judgment; accepts and benefits from constructive criticismParticipates in ongoing education as required
