Labor Relations Specialist

Job Title: Labor Relations Specialist Location: White Plains, NY Duration: 12–24 Months (Contract) Hours: 37.5 hrs/week Schedule: Hybrid onsite role – 3 days per week Position Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Labor Relations Specialist to support the HR department during a key HR transformation project. This role offers the opportunity to gain broad HR experience while supporting both union (IBEW) and salaried employees. The ideal candidate will handle day-to-day HR functions, employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, documentation, and compliance tasks. Familiarity with SAP and SuccessFactors is a plus. Key Responsibilities: + Serve as the first point of contact for employee HR issues and support management in resolving employee relations matters. + Work closely with Labor Relations leadership and HR Business Partners on escalated concerns. + Support recruitment efforts: post jobs, schedule interviews, manage background checks, and assist candidates. + Advise managers on hiring, terminations, performance reviews, and other personnel matters. + Prepare offer letters and HR documentation; ensure employee records are accurately maintained in SAP. + Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding activities. + Administer and execute routine HR programs including benefits, leave, workers’ compensation, investigations, disciplinary actions, and employee recognition. + Ensure HR compliance and reporting requirements are met. + Support HRIS data updates and employee changes. + Coordinate internal meetings, employee events, and special HR projects. Required Qualifications and Skills: + Ability to understand and apply IBEW contract terms and labor protocols. + Comfort working with union and non-union staff and handling confidential information. + Knowledge of medical and supplemental benefit plans. + Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage sensitive employee interactions professionally. + Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook); experience with SAP and workers’ compensation systems preferred. Education and Certifications: + Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in Human Resource Management or Business Administration. + Master’s degree preferred. + Minimum 2 years of experience in an HR generalist or labor relations role preferred. + Experience in the electric utility industry and/or unionized environment preferred. + PHR/SPHR certification is a plus.
